You've been a skydiver for a while if...

Recommended Posts

You upgraded from a Diaper to a RAEPER and they were both better than ropes n rings.

French jump boots were de rigueur.

Hockey helmet and skiing goggles.

You read the results of nationals to see who finished second to the Knights.
Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

You can remember upgrading your rig from capewells to R2s, and then envying the folks who got the much sleeker-looking R3s.

You jerry-rigged something to be able to have a throw-out pilot chute. This included both finding a place for the pilot chute, and replacing the cones or loops with elastic so that you could put a bight of the bridle cord through them.

You made your own bag, or diaper, or replaced your bridle with some more tubular nylon, and pilot chutes came in 3 flavors: MA1, A3, and hot dog.

You remember when people actually made corrections while spotting.

I forgot the most important one -- you remember when velcro was cool

Wendy W.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

You know what Bill Ottley's bald head was useful for.

You remember seatbelts as those irritating bumps under the padding on the floor of the plane.

You know why the preferred location for the Cypres control unit in the 1990's was under the reserve flap.

You built your own camera helmet instead of buying one ready made.

But I do that now if I don't like what i see when I look out the door at the ground and I've only been jumping a year. Does that mean I've been a skydiver for a while???B|

when you remember routinely using wind drift indicators.

That's way before my time.

When you have made streamers (wind drift indicators) on the kitchen table with copper rods, crepe paper and Elmer's glue.

Went to paper drinking straws filled with sand because the copper rods tended to gum up farmer McNasty's combine! :)

When PC meant Para Commander.

You know what a 7TU is.

Four Line release on your reserve.

The Springs The Thing ( Spring Loaded Pilot Chute on Main)

A canopy collision usually meant two rounds would bounce off one another and no one was going to die.

You did a PLF on EVERY jump.

You hooked your PC to the trailer hitch on somebody's car so you could hold tension while you flaked it.
