dislocated shoulder while in freefall

Recommended Posts

Quote

I had it happen if freefall once. Two other jumpers were chasing me as I flopped around trying to get it back in. Lets just say that'll get your heart rate up!! I was able to get it in and pull without incident.

You should do a google search for rotator cuff exercises. These are special moves that most people don't know that will strengthen the shoulder and increase stability. Any good fitness trainer will know these and be able to teach you. Also not all physical therepists know these exercises. I work in medicine and trust me do these exercises they will make a tremendous differance, in a fairly short amount of time.

I'd say that ALL physical therapists know these exercises.

It is the fitness/personal trainer's that will probably have no clue about them.

On a tandem I broke my right humerus when I went to extract the drogue...Wound up deploying the reserve and talking my passenger through flying and landing just like a solo first jump student.

After they rebuilt my arm and it healed enough, my next 3 jumps were spent practicing flying the canopy with one hand, just in case it ever happened again.:P

Years ago I had my left shoulder dislocated by someone that desided to try to flip his legs into the middle of a high grip 4 way round. :S
I pulled with my right hand and did the same as you for landing.;) I managed to pop it back in on the ground after several attempts of rotations on the counter at the dz. I was out for a week, but only had small issues while remaining on a 4way team. Building the deltiod muscle around the shoulder was key to the recovery as well as to maintain it from happening again. I never went to a doctor and have no issues at all to this day.
Good luck.

Don't get your panties in a wad.:S I personally know P.T.'s that don't know these exercises. There are alot of fitness trainers that don't know them either.:(
Bottomline is if the P.T. or Fitness Trainer is any good they will know them. The op just needs to find a good trainer of either method to help him assure a satisfactory result.B|
