slotperfect 7 #3 December 25, 2008 I made a couple of jumps out of an RCAF Buffalo (CC-115) at an airshow in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1993. It was a great aircraft. We used the ramp (of course) for the jump, but spotted the left door. Both doors have a huge bubble window for spotting (even with my horse head), made easier by a nice swing out seat and a comms panel night next to the leading edge (used a headset to send corrections straight to the pilot. It was cold for the first jump of the day, but the heater was blasting away keeping us warm. I threw WDIs out of the little recloseable porthole in the paratroop door. On a side note, if you ever get to see a live demonstration of the RCAF Twin Otters' STOL takeoff and landing capability it is amazing! That would have been really fun to fly. And probably would have caused me to quit my airline job at the time. faulknerwn 36 #5 December 26, 2008 When we did the South American CRW record back around 2000, we jumped a Buffalo all week. It was a Brazilian military aircraft...
SkydiveJack 1 #6 December 26, 2008 I made a few jumps out of a Buffalo at the Paris Airshow in 1983. Each time we took off the pilot made it a short takeoff demonstration. That thing just jumped off the runway with about 30 jumpers aboard. Way cool.

That is one of the contenders for the Buffalo replacement for the RCAF. The other contenders are the Italian-made C-27 Spartan or new-manufacture Buffalos from Viking. riggerrob 558 #9 December 26, 2008 Yes! A few years back I got six free jumps from a Buff' while helping train Canadian Search and Rescue Technicians. It's older brother - the piston powered Cariboo - is equally fun on exit and has that retro radial rumble.

Yes! Sometimes life just sucks when you work with the Canadian Armed Forces. Sometimes you just have to suck up the discomfort and "take one for the team." nomal2day 0 #13 December 29, 2008 Quote I'm thinking this would make a nice jump ship. Or maybe an Airbus A380. Tuna, I'll trade you your C5 for my A380!Here are some pictures of it empty and almost ready for jumping: one of the main deck, one of the upper deck, one of the aft cargo bay (there is also a forward one) and one from the window after landing looking at its 'sisters'. The only problem with a jumpship that would arguably take 1500+ jumpers on a load is that the spot will be 10 miles short for some and 10 miles long for others! But what a sight, building a 1000-way from one plane'To fly is heaven, to freefall is divine' 'You only need 2 tools. WD40 for when it doesn't move but should, and duct tape for when it moves but shouldn't'
Tuna-Salad 0 #14 December 29, 2008 The A380 would be a suitable jumpship. I will talk to TK about getting one for the season. Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night.
