Cayce 0 #1 April 11, 2005 I should have paid more attention to this thread when it first posted. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=994391;search_string=wings%20break%20stow;#994391 And I should have listened to my DZO when he saw me packing loose break line stows in my Wings container. Yesterday I had 4 line twists that spun me up pretty hard. I managed to kick out of the line twists only to find that my excess break stow lines had been twisted into a tension knot and was trapping my risers together like a bow tie. I tugged on it until it released. At least I knew enough to keep my fingers together as I knew it could snag a single digit. Anyway, I came out of it, according to the Neptune, after 8 seconds of struggle and right at my hard deck. I had a good canopy and made it back to the DZ with enough altitude for a decent landing pattern. The thing is that I couldn’t find anything in the Wings manual about how to stow the excess break lines so I figured it was safe just to leave it loose. Also, last weekend my DZO saw me packing and suggested rigging a rubber band to trap the excess. I didn’t really understand how he figured to do it so I didn’t pay much attention to working it out. So, there you have it, big lesson learned, I’m going to my rigger to have an elastic band attached to my risers and I had a good talk with my DZO. In the big scheme of things it was a cheap lesson, but it makes a good discussion point.
