I dont think these people realize that we live SOOOO far from the DZ. Dont worry buddy, i feel your pain as you know. 1 1/2 years in the sport and only 15 jumps to show for it PLUS this is the second time I am going to have to get current after MONTHS off. :[:/]

Ah well... One day Richard, one day. ;)

I dont think my boyfriend would like that. :-)

I live a little over an hour away from my DZ and I am broke as a joke but I still try and get one jump a week in, Friday is free gear rental and probably the only way I can get my jumps in ... so you can do it too ... Hopefully once I learn to pack those few bucks will help as well ...

An hour? That's nothing. There are many people who drive a lot farther than that to skydive every weekend.

Move :) :) :) ... And get a second job. I haven't had the living far from the dz issue (the dz i did aff at was 50 minutes and the dz i jump at now is 35), but ... The key to having the ability to pay for aff, get 30 minutes in the tunnel, buy my own gear, and continue to skydive was the second job that I had up until about six weeks ago. Working 80 hours each week for way too long sucked, but even then ... I was still skydiving on the weekends.

It wasn't easy, but it was very much worth it. Two full time jobs was probably going a bit overboard, but I wanted to spend a lot of money on skydiving and save a lot of money at the same time. Even a second part-time job would probably work wonders.
Serious relationships turn into work after a few weeks and I already got a fucking job :)

The great majority of jumpers in California are going more than an hour. Save those lucky bastards in San Diego.

Vancouverites consider themselves lucky to have Pitt Meadows 50 minutes from downtown ... on a quiet Sunday morning ... if you have to ask how long it takes during rush hour ...

Most Canadian DZ s are 90 minutes or two hours from the nearest big city.

So? People wait longer than that to jump just due to bad weather. Suck it up and wait. If you want something fast, go to McDonald's and order a hamburger. A jump is better than a hamburger, and worth the wait.

Ditto on that. I regretted having to leave "early" (10 pm), but I had to get home and pack for a canoe trip, which required I get up at 5 am the next morning.

So, I had a day of jumping, two days of canoeing, and an overnight camp on the river. I'm dog-tired today, but I sure had a fun three-day weekend.

Is that 50 minutes at a speed that won't get attention from the cops or the cameras?

The closest to San Francisco is about 75 miles, with a bridge crossing. 3 more are about 90 miles, and two more at about 120. So the 90-120 minutes is about the same. At least there are lots of choices.

I feel your pain, but if you really want to jump you'll wait for the
day when you'll be able to have the funds to do what you wish, or do
what you can now to make the funds to do what you wish and jump your
happy ass off. I scrounged through AFF, one jump a month, while I was
still in high school in 2001 working two jobs. I got off AFF and went
to college at an expensive private school where I was paying big time
bucks to fly. So, I had to choose which sky passion I wanted, and I
choose school knowing that some day I was going to graduate and get a
grown up job and be able to jump my royal rastifarian ne-ney's off.
So, I was jumping here and there for five years, most times taking a
year or so off just because I was busy/didn't have time or money, but
it was worth the wait-- 6 years later and I get to put my knees back
in the breeze and jump my tail off after graduating and getting a job.

The whole point to this story is, that if you want it bad enough, you
can make it happen, or you can wait till the day where it will fall
into place and you can jump your bum off. Either way, whether its
time or raw hands from picking up that second job packing on the
weekends, its much worth the sacrifice. B|
Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
