peckerhead 0 #54 April 15, 2007 QuotePicton (Sydney Skydivers) -200 series Otter has had the seats put back in and is being sold back into airline service. With a Turbine Beaver (10pax), 750XL (16-17pax), and a Skyvan (21pax), it just didn't seem to get used all that much. Pity, as it was the only skydiving Otter in Australia. When I was in Picton in 2005 they had two but only one was flying. The other had no engines and other parts missing. It also had a very odd nose cone. Between Jane's and a couple of posts here, I _think_ the "short" nose means it's either a -100 Otter, or a later Otter that was set up for floats at one time. I think the "long" nose is for extra baggage room, and I think it became standard starting with the -200 Otters. But for some reason the long nose and floats don't go together - probably weight and balance. Or maybe it used to have a long nose, but a biomaterials-based aircraft arresting device prevented a runway overrun at some point... EulePLF does not stand for Please Land on Face. tombuch 0 #58 April 15, 2007 Anybody know about a company called "Skydive Factory" that has two Twin Otters registered in New Hampshire (N202DH and N204DH). How about "Jump Run Aviation," also in New Hampshire (N321CY) Those companies are probably a registration home for aircraft used elsewhere, and flown under a different name (For example, Freefall Express is listed in New Hampshire but their aircraft are flown mostly in New York and Florida). They may already be on the master list, or they may be missing.Tom Buchanan Instructor Emeritus Comm Pilot MSEL,G Author: JUMP! peckerhead 0 #69 April 15, 2007 The US Forest Service also uses Otters for Smoke Jumpers. They own 3 and have 3 on contract according to one of my buddies, I thought they had all been replaced with Sherpas. They also have a turbine DC-3 in McCall I am not sure about the BLM, they may also have otters for smoke jumpers. In 1994 I was on a fire assignment in Alaska and I flew in an Otter used for crew transport. It was not set up for jumping and had seats. I saw several like this in Anchorage. http://www.fs.fed.us/fire/people/smokejumpers/aircraft.html

Eule 0 #71 April 16, 2007 QuoteI am missing the third ones for both Skydive Arizona and Perris. [....] 924MA 216 PARA DROP This might be Skydive AZ's third Otter. SDAZ provided the planes for Couch Freaks 2006 and I have a photo of 924MA sitting on the ramp. It doesn't have the "Skydive Arizona" logo on it, but it has the same color scheme as their other planes - mostly white, with red over gray over black stripes. I also jumped at Eloy about a month ago, and in my logbook I have written "929MA", but that doesn't appear to be a good number. There's a fair chance I garbled at least part of that number - I'm pretty sure about the 9--MA but the "29" might have been something else. EulePLF does not stand for Please Land on Face. I believe there is an aerodynamic reason for it. The floats protrude far forward and add a lot of vertical surface area. They would tend to move the aerodynamic center forward (causing yaw stability problems), so vertical fins are added to the horizontal stabilizer to counter that. I think the longer nose has the same affect as the floats, so they use the shorter nose on most float equipped models. (There are plenty of pics on the internet of long-nose float-equipped otters). I think the short nose from the -100 series was retained as an option for the -200 series, for float operators. Could be wrong though!
