Back to the Future II

Recommended Posts

BTFII is in its third day now. We're building to 64 way diamonds; the final outside ring hasn't docked yet.

The first day we did two practice sets of 36-way diamonds. some of the groups got two points. After that we put the entire 100-way up to get a feel for what it would all look like. That didn't work, so we started staging the docks. The 9 way would build, then once the tail was on, the 36-way would build etc.

Yesterday we continued that. We completed the 36 way a few times but there were setup problems in the outer lines. They improved throughout the day, but by about 3pm we had lower ceilings and serious turbulence at 12,000 feet (bad news for formation loads.) We went back to 36 ways for safety reasons and did one of those with just the base 36 way.

Unfortunately we had a low turn fatality at the end of that dive, and we called it for the rest of the day.

Today we're docking the 64 way diamond, leaving only the outer ring free flying. We've done two jumps with pretty good success (most people in.) Hopefully by the end of the day we'll be able to dock the last line.

Some screen captures below from Amy's POV camera.

Yesterday we had limited luck. We had some pretty spectacular funnels, and things weren't improving. So this morning BJ scaled it back to an infacing 110 way. (The usual round base with diamonds and lines.) After 3 jumps we got the first point and are working on the second.

Belly camera capture below of a mini-funnel. Didn't affect the rest of the formation tho.
