Las Vegas feedback

Recommended Posts

I have a business-trip to Las Vegas and plan to stay for the weekend to have some fun. I’m planning to either get out on Lake Mead or bring the gear and go skydiving.

From remembering older threads, I recall that Mesquite is the best choice to jump as the other two locations are tandem factories.

I’ll be on my own, so probably wouldn’t have a prob getting on loads at even the tandem oriented locations. If any DZ has the possibility of a balloon jump, I’d book straight away.

What is the feedback of people that have jumped in the Vegas area (views/altitude/general vibe)?

I've just been in Vegas and after reading all the reviews Mesquite vas an easy choice.
I got my licence there during my vacation. I loved it there. It's about an hour drive from Vegas though.
23 bucks for a 13500 ft jump. Often goes couple hundred feet higher. Don't you hate when they do that. ;)
Guys are great and you'll have people to jump with. They jump every weekend and often one or two work days. Call Brad, number on their web site. Blue Skies

I went to Vegas last year. Mesquite is the place to go. I also went to Vegas Extreme in Jean. It was a tandem-oriented place but they had no problem taking my money. Sin City is in the same building as Vegas Extreme but I didn't have a chance to jump there, too. I think they had a 206.

Mesquite is the place to be in the Vegas Area.

Brad and crew will take great care of you... plus I think the odds are a tad better in the casinos out there than they are in the city for after hours fun.;)

I'm no pro but here's my 2 cents about my experience with slv.

I have 2 tandem jumps and 6 solo jumps, my first tandem jump was in my hometown and my second was at Skydive Las Vegas cause my gf at the time and I went to vegas and she wanted to skydive. So I went with her.

That place has nice people but it was a total tandem factory. Even my gf didn't like how they rushed us into a load and told us not to touch anything. As we were exiting I touched the handle in pac 750xl and the instructor said "don't touch that!" I felt like an inconvenience more than anything. I know they have rules and are keen on safety, but they should talk to us, not down to us. I know touching my Harness is a BIG NO NO, but I didn't know touching the door track by accident was a big no no either. ( no I wasn't snooping around intentionally trying to tamper with things either) Then I performed a perfect arch in freefall, when we landed the tandem master raved about how easy of a tandem passenger I was and he hadn't had a tandem jump like that in a long time. The landing area was off the airport and it was dirty and dusty, which is understandable, it being in a dessert and all. Getting up to altitude was super fast.

Over all I give SLV 3/5 as a tandem passenger. But if I were a licensed skydiver visiting them, i'd probably give them a 4/5 or even a 5/5 cause the people there were nice, Just treated tandem passengers like cattle. But they were just doing there jobs, trying to put food on the table. No harm in that....... so long story short, SLV should be good for you to get tons of jumps in cause they load fast. LOL

Well, jumping the Strip is fun but it's hard to get on those loads.

Mesquite is going to be your best choice there. Good people, good DZ, good airplane. It's a bit of a drive tho.

On my last trip to Vegas, I researched some of the places via the web and found that vegas extreme openly advertised "fun jumpers welcome!". I tried to be nice and gave them a call just as a heads up, that I'd be there. They told me that if I was goign to jump my own gear, they'd need a rigger to inspect it, but the rigger wouldn't be there on the day that I was planning on going. Bunch of douche bags, the worst part was I bought my brother a tandem there for his birthday a few months earlier.

When I called Mesquite, the guy that answered was nice and said that he'd absolutely take me up, unfortunately they didn't have any business during the week, and I wasn't able to make it over there on the weekend. It's understandable that 1 fun jumper isn't going to get any plane in the air.

Thanks everyone for the info. As Matty noted above, a quick phone call can often give you a pretty good feel.

I called Brad a Mesquite and yes they seem like a good operation, however unlucky for me, is that this is the last weekend with the turbine and next weekend (when I’m there) they’ll be on a 182.

Re Extreme Vegas, I called to inquire about a couple jumps before sunset on Friday. I was actually taken back at the person answering the phones lack of “people skills”. Seem like real dicks which to me spells “avoid”

End result, I’m changing my return flight from Vegas to Los Angeles and will spend a couple days at Perris Valley.

Good choice. :)
