Best DZs to visit in winter?

Recommended Posts

Skydive Hawaii! You need a C licence and it gets windy and there's a big ocean across the street from the DZ with heavy surf if you decide to put it in the water you should know how to swim. There are accomodations/hostels in the area (haleiwa)from cheap to super luxurious beachfront.

I live in New England, and looking to go to a warmer DZ this winter for a week or two. What DZs in the country are still warm around early January and have lodging on site?

I hear the biggest DZ in the world is located in this place called Arizona, which just so happens to have weather in the winter thats warmer than most other places.:P

But the OP shouldn't be surprised if "warmer than most other places" is not actually warm in January, especially in the mornings.

Zhills probably has the best onsite lodging in FL, but at that time of year you should probably plan ahead so you can reserve one of the campers.
Deland has a bunkhouse that's more like a shed. There are skydivers who own bunkhouses but they are a few miles away, not on the dz.
Eloy is definitely a nice dz, but I found it to be quite chilly in the mornings. Coming from New England, your perspective is probably a little different than mine!

Depends what you call chilly, luv. Being Russian and living in CT, 50 and above is tshirt and shorts weather. But, no matter what pilotdave says, I will NOT jump in the winter. :P

Our slogan? "We suck less!"

We have great boogies and stay busy all winter long. Multiple turbines and this year for sure a large variety of aircraft.

Is the lodging in the area relatively cheap? I'd rather save money by sleeping onsite in a tent OR rooming with a fellow skydiver somewhere for a moderate fee of food and beer ;)

PS. Not that I care, but while I was looking at the website, I saw that under the "Experienced jumpers" menu, the word 'orgenizing' is misspelled. Should be 'organizing' :o;)

Never go to a DZ that has bad spelling. That's Rule Number One.
