Was it an ideal format for the cover? No it isn't. Could it still be used in spite of the format and make a good cover? It could be a jump into a remote corner of the country or world, as long as it is association members and is a jump that has some meaning. There are many possibilities. Some covers are picked just because they are great shots, and they are a good format for the cover. The flag shot was an okay picture, and would have been made worse by cropping to fit the cover requirements. The fact that Parachutist chose to include it as the closing picture shows that they are not "un-American". The fact that they chose to ask the membership what they thought shows they are not elistist or out of touch.
