Was not meant to sound like I'm scared !or not positive. Shit happens and just don't want the family to be left in the dark!

First, if you have concerns of that nature you should already have a 'what if shit happens' tool in place...

Second, if you happen to meet your demise at the DZ, be assured we will go through your pockets and car and will make certain everything is divided up evenly.

Third, if you should decide to stick with skydiving for the long haul...before long, you won't have any worldly possessions of any great consequence to leave anyone anyway...so don't sweat it.

Very true statement. I am in the middle of moving to California and starting aff next week. I get a nice bonus in October and I am already debating on if I should use that money for furniture/washer and dryer that I will need or my first rig...

I'm not going to blast you. Skyflower Bloom is a single mom who made sure all the bases were covered before she started jumping. You can search her posts to find out what all she did, but that is going to be a bit of a chore.

Will, Living will, enough life insurance to cover whoever will be left behind, enough health and disablilty insurance to cover what might happen if you don't die. Dental insurance is good too.
Make sure any insurance doesn't exclude skydiving.

The family issue can be tough. Interestingly enough, I had this very conversation with my (72 yr old) mom today. She has been coming out to the DZ to watch lately. She really enjoys the overall DZ atmosphere, as well as watching all of us jump. She said that she isn't scared to watch me jump, but if I had an accident, she probably wouldn't come to watch ever again.
We also discussed my willingness to accept the risk in the sport, and that the rewards are worth it to me. She understands and accepts this.

If your family isn't willing to have those sorts of conversations, then a letter may be a good idea. Simply stating that the risks are (were) worth what jumpng gave you may help them deal with what may happen (although it probably won't happen).

And by that he means make sure you have a buddy who will get all the porn out of your home before your family finds it.

Well like I said I am about to start aff and am already obsessed with this and debating this decision. And I can tell you that there is a 90% chance as of right now that I will buy a rig instead of furniture and that will more than likely increase to 100% by the time I get through aff ;)

Edit: with the timing of everything that purchase will more than likely happen at chicks rock 2010 as Elsinore

Dude! Laundrymats are expensive. Just wash your clothes in the kitchen sink and hang dry 'em in the backyard. :D

'Cept that fancy new Hawaiian print jumpsuit that gets taken to the dry cleaners. :D:D

I would suggest you talk to a laywer....

um and stay positive dude.

Skydiving is not that dangerous... ;)

i agree with stay positive, but are you retarded, you are dead until you deploy that parachute, there is nothing safe about jumping out of a plane...luckily with modern technology the danger is mitigated as much as it can and the most likely cause of death would be you landing wrong.

Don't consider myself a REAL skydiver yet!but hopefully I can call myself one in the future. It amazes me how some people on here can make a newcomer feel so out of place.

Hi, I'm a newcomer too, having only done one Tandem jump. I understand why you say that as yes, some can make you feel like "what the hell are you even considering it for", having said that, alot of newbies do ask the same questions over and over again, and the experienced ones must get a bit fed up with it i guess, as most have been answered on here at some point. Most I think want reasurance, and if they way up the risks, get the proper training and read up on it, they will find that, but the ones that are hoping for someone on here to say "yes its completely safe, yes it dosnt matter if you are overweight etc, etc...." really are in the wrong place as they obviously dont have the common sense required! :)

haha so true. I just sold a bunch of thing on eBay to afford a jumpsuit. It may come to selling my truck just to buy a rig ;)

Better move to the DZ, or having a rig aint gonna be good for shit.

This doesn't really make clear whether you're talking about a last will and testament, or just a heart-to-heart letter to your family expressing all you'd like to say to them if you should die.

If you need a will, the best person to speak to is a lawyer. If you need to write a heart-felt letter to your loved ones, the best people to speak to are your closest friends and/or relatives who know you the best. If you need both of them, they should be two separate documents; don't try combining them into a single one.
