Military static line jumps

Sorry if my traditional streak bothers some. I just thought the old way was better.

It doesn't bother me at all.:)
I was mostly yanking your chain.;)

I did S/L progression. I'm very familar with the gear and it's reliability.
I personally think that if you gear up, get on the plane and go out the door, it's a jump that "counts".

I've got 25 or 30 military static line jumps but those are a completely different animal than skydives. Full combat gear, night, 800 ft AGL, no delay and usually under non-steerable rounds.
Should base jumps count as skydives too?
I don't think so! Even when they're from a 3000 ft cliff. No airplane is involved.

Error in your logic, I don't think I will ever be on a bigway :P

Sorry to hear that.[:/]:D

I do deploy my parachute on a static line. Me exiting the aircraft activates the parachute. :P

That puts you right up there with a crate of freight and a box of rocks. That means a store mannequin can make a skydive. Cool. B|

How many A-License holders get invited to a bigway? :S

I know of a few Gold Wing jumpers with only an A license. Done bigways with 'em, too. ;)

When I learned, it was a big deal to go from S/L to freefall. I was raised thinking skydiving meant to open your own chute. My S/L jumps were not counted for my licenses or awards. If they want to change all that, fine. It's their system, not mine. But I'll keep counting my jumps the old way. :D

That's how I learned, too. Sure, they count as jumps, but I was taught that they didn't count for licenses and awards. It appears that was correct at one time but that's all been changed. Oh well.:)

no actually I've been static line jumping for 14 years and am a military static line jumpmaster. And I will take that back to an extent... yes my experience with PLFs has helped me but thats it. I have no idea what you are talking about in terms of it being the same as freefall with canopy control. military static line canopy control has nothing to do with sskydiving canopy control. So obviously you've never done a military static line jump.

You were talking about staticline, not just military static line. Most of our (civ) SL jumps are with squares, which I think has a lot of ground in common with sport freefall jumping. Even our military does square SL sometimes, I've seen them, so again, lots of stuff in common.
I've never jumped a round, but since that is popular here with couple of civ groups even that has merit for some :P But on the whole I suppose real military SL are another kettle of fish yes.
