Update on Shannon Pilcher
Thanks for your love, prayers and patience. Here is the latest update on Shannon's situation. He is out of surgery and in a stable condition in post-op recovery. The surgery went as planned and the doctors feel positive about it...

Worth noting that Brian Vacher is also in hospital after dislocating a hip at the same event. From FB he was also speed flying and performed an emergency landing after realising he has in the corner, dislocated hip on PLFing.

Heal well both.

These guys are at the top of their disciplines. They fly on the edge of performance and are always pushing the limit, and I'm sure they are well aware of the risks. One slight miscalculation and shit happens. [:/]

Speedy recovery to the guys.

You are right. Guys like Shannon are a bit more the skydivers in my eyes at least. They are pioneers in this sport and not the average Joe.

Newbies dont use this as a way to say... "see even the best guys get hurt" It isnt that simple. These guys are taking very calculated risks and working together with guys that have years and years and years in the this sport to give us all a good platform from which to move forward.

True. Unfortunately pioneers have always paid a high price. Hoping for the best.

Indeed - though if you know what these guys have been doing in the mountains during the past few years, then you know it's a testament to how good they really are that so few of them have so far paid a high price for routinely doing stuff at the very edge of the envelope.

Totally amazing bunch of guys, totally dedicated to their craft, totally dialed into what they're doing.

hopefully, Shannon will be back in the saddle soon.

Actually , I would endorse the idea that even the best guys do get hurt. Skydivers push the envelope at all levels of experience. It is an important thing for everyone to remember, there simply isn't a plateau of invincibility and there is always that drive for a new risk that should be managed.

I would encourage everyone to learn both the positive and negative lessons from icons in the sport.

Just to be clear, Brian was not 'in the corner'. He did not have enough altitude to clear a ridge while flying straight and level (there are multiple ridges) on a speed flying run, and made a decision to seek an alternate landing area.

Lets keep this thread to Shannon please.

We've had a good 24 hours. Shannon's post-op recovery has shown signs of improvement. The doctors have made some basic contact with him. His mother and sister are here with him in Switzerland, as is the whole team.

Shannon has suffered severe back trauma and head trauma as a result of the fall. The doctors have been waiting for the swelling to go down from the accident and the surgery to be able to accurately assess the damage. Although there was some intercranial swelling there have been no signs of internal bleeding. Regarding the back trauma - he has been voluntarily moving all of his limbs and his latest spine CT scan looks positive. He is still considered in a critical condition due to the nature of his injuries, but we have hope and continue to pray for more good news.

We have been reading all the messages of love and support out there for our team mate. It's overwhelming and is providing great comfort to all those close to him. We are staying strong and positive and are thankful that Shannon is still with us. We continue to wait for more news and will post when we have it.

Translation of parts of the Article:

One of the skydivers hit the cable of a transport cable car which ripped apart the lines of the parachute and the man fell to the ground and then 40m over a ridge onto a snow field.

I am sure for those involved, and closest to him, their lowest priority is to log onto DZ.com to let us know. It's unfortunate that what we hear is from a newspaper article.

Bob,

The team has been giving regular updates on the Facebook page, and posting them here - including the cable strike information.

As always, we will continue to give information as it becomes available to us - we're doing the best we can to keep everyone informed.
