jont 0 #1 December 5, 2010 Hi My shiny new Bev suit is pining for me on the wrong side of the Atlantic. Are there any Brits travelling to a DZ in the states in the next month or so who could help me out by bringing it back with them? Or any Stateside folks who just happen to be visiting the UK? There might well be beer in it... JonT
Beachbum 0 #2 December 5, 2010 I am a bit puzzled here. Is your shiny new suit afraid to travel alone via UPS or whatever shipping method? As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks?

jont 0 #4 December 5, 2010 It's called VAT, and it's about to go up from 17.5% to 20%

Wouldn't that negate the VAT?For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp

freeatlast 0 #7 December 5, 2010 Quote Any chance you could potentially have a mate pick it up for you and ship it over? Wouldn't that negate the VAT? VAT is due on items entering the UK over a certain value. Import Duty is also usually due, as are possible fees from the courier company - this often adds up to 20.3% plus the courier fees. Obviously even if someone else posts an item to you then VAT etc is due on it. Mis-representing an item or it's value can get you into trouble with HMRC who can seize the item and/or fine you... Obviously it would be a foolish thing to post on a public forum asking someone to do such a thing!
matthewcline 0 #8 December 5, 2010 Curious. If a UK Jumper buys a suit here while on vacation and adds it to their gear bag do they still pay the VAT? MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
Hellis 0 #9 December 5, 2010 Yes, as a good citizen you walk over to the customs office and declare your new jumpsuit and pay VAT. *cough*
matthewcline 0 #10 December 5, 2010 What if it is just to replace the one that "wore out" on vacation, same thing? MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
skreamer 1 #11 December 5, 2010 Hi Matt You can bring goods worth up to £320 back to the UK (or anywhere in the EU for that matter) from the US. So if they didn't buy anything else (tobacco and alcohol are excluded) then VAT and import duties wouldn't be applied. Will
matthewcline 0 #12 December 5, 2010 That equates (roughly) to what we have here in the US. MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
