aj4218 0 #1 December 29, 2010 Early 1980s canopy. Anyone know where I might be able to get hold of one? It's not for a skydive but for an anniversary ground launch in late February 2011. Please PM me. Thanks. Al

riggerrob 622 #3 December 30, 2010 Comet 228 was designed by Bill Gargano circa 1980. Bill made Comets for a few years, then sold the rights to Strong Enterprises and Parachutes Australia. Seven-cell, Dacron lines and one of the first canopies made of F-111 fabric. Comets competed with Pegasus, Fury, Cruiselite, PD 7-cells, etc. Comets fell out of fashion in the late 1980s, so good luck finding one in someone's back closet. The closest modern equivalent would be a reserve or Triathlon. Some of the CReW (Canopy Formation Competition) (e.g. PD Lightning) look like Comets, but are probably trimmed to steeply nose-down for ground-launching.
