Any NEW dropzones out there?

Recommended Posts

Skydive South Texas on Mustang Island near Corpus Christi is new in 2010. Previously at that location there was the occasional holiday weekend operation. Now different firm, most weekends, they have a full-time aircraft. Beach landings are the NORM!

http://www.skydivetheisland.com/ this is the current firm I am speaking of, NOT Atlas Skydiving.
The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!

There's always a lot of talk when one closes up shop, but have any NEW dropzones opened recently in the US? Say in 2010 or set to open soon in 2011?

I wonder if there's a list of number of DZs in the US by year anywhere?

Just curious.

Skydive Airtight in Oklahoma opened back up after being closed for awhile.

Are they going to have a real pilot flying for them this time? >:(

Skydive live! In defuniak springs Just north of Ft Walton Beach FL is an awesome 182 dropzone that took off last year. $20 lift tix and free lunch on the grill by the DZO. I wish this place opened up earlier as I have moved away since.

I'd expect more to be closing than opening in general, and for any new ones to be tandem factories.

I haven't seen the figures, but I get the sense (at least in the UK) that active experienced jumpers are on the decline. I think people spending more time in the tunnel and less in the air these days :(.
