Before we get all excited about this -

Aren't these all also the names of towns?

I didn't check them all, but Fort Dix is a town in NJ, not just a particular military base, right?

(Don't get me wrong. I'd love for SR to do something that would really piss off the government. I'm just not sure that this is it.)

Not exactly. They are large enough to be towns, but they are military installations.
I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

I did recently learn that Chuck Owen and Cary's son are the webmasters and SEO guys for the company. Maybe they are the ones who will be the sacrificial lambs in this one.
There will be no addressing the customers as "Bitches", "Morons" or "Retards"!

I'm not military, but I would hedge a bet that the U.S. military would not appreciate having their base names used by an unscrupulous company that has already lost nearly every court case against it.

And if I'm not mistaken, the U.S. military's access to legal resources is limitless.

In other words, you'll be sorry you fucked with the United States military! :o

While skyride uses some creative marketing tacktics its not illegal. If i wanted to open Fort Brag window tinting there is not a damn thing the military can do to stop me from using that name. Legally you can change one letter in a company name and nothing can be done.
You guys are a bunch of babies crying out Blus sky magazine. They are not skyride.
When I worked at jump jax they accepted skyride and I made a lot of money off of them I have no issues with them. Skyride may have deceptive marketing but its working cause they are making cash.

Hmmmmmm...is there something wrong there?

As far a legal. you may want to investigate Skydive Arizona's law suit. It might get you to re-think "creative marketing" and legality. Then again, it might not. Take a look and then decide.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

Ok a few things about this reply:

1. The fact that the business is "making cash" does not mean it's practices are acceptable. Simple logical analogy: I start a hit business and it's exceptionally profitable. Does that make it ok? Of course not.

2. Changing a letter absolutely does NOT protect you from trademark infringement laws. It's called trademark dilution. Victoria's Secret sued a lingerie shop called Victor's Secret and won, as an example. If I recall correctly, among the complaints the Skydive AZ made against Skyride, dilution was one of them. And Skyride lost.

a little over 10 million to be paid - for creativity, now huh?

I just can't remember if that was that before or after SR tried to illegally hide assets.

Actually I do - and it seem very very satisfying that, if I can't get my money from them that they pay through the nose to an organization that I respect and would patronize.

They tried the same thing by filing a law suite against Mike Mullins when he was in coolage and they lost. His name was Arizona skydiving coolage no law broken there.
Even if they loose they will never pay a dime. They will simply file bankruptcy and open a new business.

I think that taxiway is confusing the notion of illegal with the notion of criminal.

There are many things that are, in fact, illegal, but since they are not criminal, they can go on unless someone brings a civil action against the perpetrators.

When things are criminal, we expect that police and courts will automatically get involved.

But the absence of criminal proceedings does not negate that something may be illegal.

For example, copyright infringement is illegal, but since it is not criminal, it must be pursued in a civil action.

So lets break it down to the nitty gritty.

Are you for or against SR's buisness practices?

I could care less either way. When I worked at jump jax I was all for it cause I made a 1000 a weekend jumping
While I did not agree with the owners of jump jax's business practices either I was there for the work and no other reason.

First off, we do agree that BSM isn't the one to complain about here.

But you said, "Whatever man it paid my bills..."

So, you'll be fine when someone steals your identity and runs up the bills on your credit cards.

After all, he was just feeding his family.

Okay, maybe that's too clearly to criminal.

What if a competitor of yours uses your name and trashes your reputation?

"Whatever man, he's just feeding his family?"

So if skyride committed bank fraud as you suggest then why have the feds not shut them down? Please dont take this as me being for skyride cause I really dont give a shzt.

I will do anything to keep food on the table for my family If I have to resort to breaking the law to survive I will.

Well, that's one way to look at it. Just keep in mind that you have no right to bitch if someone does to you that which you are willing to do to them.

It was not my intention to imply that SR perpetrated bank frauds.

These were only examples, "what ifs", for you, since you had said "Whatever man, it paid my bills".

The question I asked about using your name is not about legitimate competition.

I have no problem with legitimate competition.

So I asked about a form of competition designed to hurt you.

If someone uses your name in order to damage you, you still have no problem with it?

Maybe he uses your name and does good work. That still takes work out of your business, and money out of your pocket.

Are you really okay with that sort of thing?

A general allegation against SR is that SR improperly uses the names of businesses they are not.

Is that really okay?

At what point does someone's breaking of the law become too much for you? I assume you're not ok with my previous example about hit men, but you are ok with illegally stealing trademarks. Where do you personally draw the line?
I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

Hi TAXIWAY,

A little story for you: A local jumper owned a beauty parlor; she called it United Hairlines. One day an attorney showed up & said that he represented United Airlines and that if she did not change the name of her company, they would proceed with litigation.

Compared to United Airlines, she was a rather small business, so she took the smart route & changed the name of her company.

It would be your choice to go along or fight. Think about the costs of winning? :S
