guineapiggie101 0 #1 December 21, 2011 For those of you who are not jumping anymore but still wanting to stay "in the loop" with your friends at the DZ, how do you accomplish that? It is pretty likely that I will not be going back to finishing my licensing. I am a bit too high strung most of the time and my anxiety can be mind crippling at times. I don't want to leave this sport so have been having fun with doing weekly tandem jumps (sometimes even with friends which is way cool). I do hang at the DZ most weekends and still do plan to go to the boogies, and hang out with people, when I can. This could just be my own feelings on this subject, but I do worry I will eventually be just an "outsider" looking in, since I can't actively participate in the jumping. People have suggested that I get involved in doing tunnel time and playing around in there. I have never been a big fan of the tunnel. To me, being in the sky is everything. Feeling the air on your face, floating around up there, seeing the scenery, etc.

roostnureye 2 #3 December 21, 2011 im pretty high strung too, seems that skydiving helps me chillout, all week long i just think of the weekend and the jumps, gets me by, and before you know it its the weekend again! mabye try and not think about the next jump you do, just let it happen. once you get the comfort of falling its hard to not go back to it. or work at the snack bar Flock University FWC / ZFlock B.A.S.E. 1580 Aussie BASE

missbrz 0 #5 December 22, 2011 I actually have friends that don't jump but are still in the "culture". They boogie hop just as much as I do. You don't have to jump with people to be friends with them. I've actually never jumped with the majority of my skydiving friends. Just be there & you'll be fine. also +1 to being a judge. I'm a swoop comp judge & love it! I love swooping but will never do it myself. It lets me be a part of that aspect of the sport without having to do it myself. Keep in mind, I don't have any type of skydiving license and have only been involved with the sport for about a year.

Joellercoaster 6 #13 December 22, 2011 Quote Have you considered looking into becoming a judge. +1 to this. A former teammate of mine got hurt a couple of years ago and stopped jumping, but she trained as an FS judge to keep her hand in, and is definitely not lost to us. Did a few hours of 4-way in the tunnel with her earlier this year too, and she's still pretty badass -- "I'll tell you how all skydivers are judged, . Keep in mind, I don't have any type of skydiving license and have only been involved with the sport for about a year. Experience doesnt matter. Like I said I dont swoop but I judge swooping. & how you would do it depends on what kind of judging you want to do. Each subset requires its own training. I'm only rated for canopy performance, so I wouldnt know the first thing about judging 4way. My suggestion would be to decide what kind (or kinds) of judging you want to do. Then find out when the next competition will be & contact whoever is organizing it. From my experience, they are always looking for dedicated judges. For the swoop comps in your region, you can find more info on the Cali swoop comps go to http://swoopleague.com/districts/california/. I'll try to find out who organizes the judges on that coast & pm you the details when I find out.
guineapiggie101 0 #15 December 22, 2011 Thanks! It would be great to learn mre about judging. Skydiving fascinates me, even though I don't do solos anymore. Nothing beats the feeling of being up in the sky, on a sunset jump, feeling the cold air beat against your face
