kallend 1,935 #51 June 26, 2010 QuoteQuotethere is only a couple of hundred skydivers in New Zealand and we do over 100,000 tandems per year with outside camera, you do the maths! OK, I'll do the maths. A couple of hundred skydivers in New Zealand= about 200 skydivers. OVER 100,000 tandems per year. If every skydiver in New Zealand is a TI, that would be 500 jumps per instructor per year. Not hard to do but I doubt every skydiver in New Zealand is a TI. New Zealand has a population of a little over 4 million people. Los Angeles and surrounding areas(Orange county, Riverside, San Bernardino, Kern, Ventura) have a population that far exceeds New Zealand and I doubt they are exceeding 100,000 tandems per year by much. The math doesn't seem to work out. Sure it does, as does his D license number.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. rhys 0 #52 June 26, 2010 QuoteSure it does, as does his D license number. Not quite sure what that meant but to clarify; That is an NZPIA number, they got the part 149 in 2002 off the NZPF and I got my rating in 2005. I should update it to the NZSA one thst I am currently using, I could use my USPA D license or APF E license also..."When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
champu 1 #53 June 28, 2010 QuoteQuote At this point, I just really want to see someone land a wingsuit before Jeb does. (and yes I'm aware there was at least one non-fatal terrain flying crash already, I'm not counting that.) WTF! Where can I find info on this crash landing? Maybe not a landing, but going in with nothing out and living is amazing! It happened back in 2002 in France. There's some info in this thread, but basically (...eh? ...eh?) it was a wingsuit flyer that went in with his container open but the slider still in the packjob. Smashed some teeth out and broke his back but he lived to jump again. It comes up from time to time when people talk about anyone being the first to "land" a wingsuit. Waldschrat 0 #57 July 5, 2010 Quote I heard "jeb lives in the millionaires neighborhood of malibu..." I was like DAMN, IS HE MAKING THAT MUCH FROM THESE SHOWS?! but then the rest of the sentence said"...with his mother and step father." and I felt like he's just another skydiver.Though, I would still assume he's making a shitload of money on these shows. But its kinda of sad to hear that what most people consider to be a famous skydiver/base jumper still lives with his parents. Then again, maybe it's just for the show. Anyone know? ETA: Watched the rest of the series. So now I know. As "far out and reckless" as he seems to whuffos I enjoyed the series. Its a shame that they'll think of all of us as suicidal death defiers, but, well who cares what they really think. I like my life! riggerrob 627 #66 July 9, 2010 Jeb would be wise to follow Chuck Yeager's example and gradually expand his envelope by starting with a small ramp - at the base of a small cliff. Once he has worked out the bugs at slow speeds, he should gradually work his way up to progressively larger ramps and higher cliffs and higher velocities, until he eventually sneaks all the way up to (wingsuit) terminal velocity.
