skybytch 267 #2 April 29, 2003 I've never been there but I hear the one you want is the dz in Jean, Nevada - Gravity Zone. If you didn't learn to jump there you can't jump at Skydive Las Vegas.
jtval 0 #3 April 29, 2003 dan go to gravity zone..its the ONLY place to jump! they got a caravan. some friendly jumpers there. I will be in NY or I would jump with ya! gravity zone have fun take 15 south to exit 12 on JEAN, Nevada(40 miles or so) then make a left and follow the signs! My photos My Videos
sinker 0 #4 April 30, 2003 sorry for changing the topic a little, but speaking of Las Vegas, I heard that Denny Collins is jumping out there somewhere... anyone know him? He was one of my AFF instructors in Tennessee and I'd like to find him... -the artist formerly known as sinker
jtval 0 #5 April 30, 2003 I can tell you he doesnt jump at gravity zone. and If I told you about SD Las Vegas I may get this thread locked! My photos My Videos
WFFC 1 #6 April 30, 2003 QuoteIf I told you about SD Las Vegas I may get this thread locked! Having had several discussions with the SDLV dzo, I can understand totally why he made up the rule he did. i.e. a few ruined it for the many - eliminate the possibility, partial headache gone. I will be visiting SDLV next time I'm there and we'll see if the conversation holds true. (btw, this is Michael from Ground-Rush.com and not Freefall.com making this statement - must change hats and keep the one out of opinions of the other)

Rottenmilk 0 #8 May 1, 2003 The GravityZone is mediocre, not quite the best DZ I've ever been to. The thing that got me while I was there was the weird vibes. Maybe it's just me, or maybe it was Vegas. I'm not sure. In their defense, I certainly had a great time while I was there, and Jason and Athena Dawson (DZOs) are super nice people! I believe the caravan only runs on the weekend via SDLV (interestingly, their neighbors). Also, the ditch that boarders the landing area is odd to say the least. Oh, make sure you don't smoke weed while you're there - the police are also neighbors (we had a couple of close calls!). Overall, it's a fun time - gambling, hookers, and skydiving - it's the life!
nitrodan 0 #9 May 1, 2003 It looks like I'll only get to enjoy the gambling and hookers while I'm there the wind tunnel is down till the 12th and I broke the brake lines on my main yesterday and had to chop it. I don,t think it will be fixed before monday when I fly out. It is pretty cool to cut away from a fully inflated canopie though!!!!DAN SMITH www.skydivewichita.com
dreamsville 0 #10 May 1, 2003 How did the brake lines break? That sounds pretty serious. I mean no harm, just asking in case there is an example of stuff we can try to avoid. |I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
nitrodan 0 #11 May 1, 2003 I'm a pretty big guy my exit weight is about 280 so thats the main reason but I also jump a triathalon 220 and I can't get it to open very consistently, i had the factory retrim it 30 jumps ago after it broke seven lines on an opening last year but after 20 jumps its right back to the same old thing. If anyone needs a big canopie that will keep you on your toes I'v got one for sale!!!DAN SMITH www.skydivewichita.com
jtval 0 #12 May 2, 2003 rottenmilk. Im not sure when you were here but the vibes are definitely stronger...on a good note!!! there was a weird thing going on with the 2 dz in one bldg thing. but I mostly avoided it! true the DZ may not be up -to -par with Perris and Eloy and deland etc! but its a new and growing dz. we are getting O2 next week. I hear...High altitudes start soon! I cant wait!My photos My Videos

toolbox 0 #16 February 24, 2012 Sincity skydiving out at the jean airport is the best place to get in a few fun dives. They actually have fun jumpers there. Give them a call a few days in advance (702-300-8508) and give them a heads up. If you go on the weekend, you will most likely see some fun jumpers willing to fly with you. Weekdays of course will be slower. The best skydvers in vegas are at Sincity and if you are fortunate, you might get to fly with some of the instructors, who are very talented at free fying and belly dives(they are all AFF instructors). Another fun jumper DZ would be about 1 hour north of vegas at mesquite. They are also good skydivers. Remember, the air is thin down there,so be conservative on your first few landings. So, either nothing has changed or nothing is going to change. Do we have to re-live the Baby Mama Drama in a nine year old thread..? Let's just let it go... let it goooo.... deep breaths in thru our mouths, then let it out thru your nose... again... in deep, out thru the nose... There ya go... just let it go. Breathe... I'm living at the casino at Primm ,Nv. a few mins. from Jean working on a solar plant. I stopped in last week to check it out. She told me have your own gear and 60 bucks a pop for a fun jump. Bad vibes from the min. I walked in the door. Just my opinion.I hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all. Bluhdow 31 #23 February 28, 2012 I was going to start a thread to ask this but this should do. No need to clog up the forums if I don't have to. This summer a big group of friends is coming in from out of the country and decending upon LV. They've expressed interest in going and doing tandem skydives while in LV. Here's the criteria I'm looking for, if you could help point me to the most appropriate DZ I would really, really appreciate it! 1. I have my A license so I'll be looking to rent gear and jump as well. Thus, a pro shop is necessary. 2. As I mentioned, it will be a large group of tandems. Maybe 10 or so. So a jump plane that could get everyone on the same load would be nice. 3. Closer to the strip is better. We'll either be cabbing or slamming into as few vehicles as possible. 4. Cost is (as always) a factor. My guess is a lot of people do tandems while on vacation in LV and I'd prefer to stay away from a DZ with a high "tourist premium." Thank you for your help. Very much appreciated! And if there's anyone in the thread who jumps in LV regularly and wants to sync up for the day I'd be happy to stay and jump all day. I can always meet up with the whuffos again later in the day. =)Apex BASE #1816

I have my A license so I'll be looking to rent gear and jump as well. Thus, a pro shop is necessary. www.skydivemesquite.com has rental gear. best chance of getting a fun jump for you as well. 2. As I mentioned, it will be a large group of tandems. Maybe 10 or so. So a jump plane that could get everyone on the same load would be nice.I wish I could tell you Mesquite. but they have a cessna during the summer..as do a few other DZ's. Your best bet would be SDLV for a large group on one plane....but I would call to ensure they'll have an otter. I dont think ay of the Vegas DZ's have an otter. thats the ONLY way you'll get 10 tandems up at once...but they wont get outside video, just handicam. I'm also not sure ANY vegas DZ has 10 Tandem instructors...Knowing what I know, I'd still say Mesquite 3. Closer to the strip is better. We'll either be cabbing or slamming into as few vehicles as possible. SDLV for the view. They're about 45 Miles one way. SD Mesquite is about 65 one way 4. Cost is (as always) a factor. My guess is a lot of people do tandems while on vacation in LV and I'd prefer to stay away from a DZ with a high "tourist premium."SD Mesquite without a doubt. Thank you for your help. Very much appreciated! And if there's anyone in the thread who jumps in LV regularly and wants to sync up for the day I'd be happy to stay and jump all day. I can always meet up with the whuffos again later in the day. =) Your BEST bet it to call and compare. Dont forget to ask: 1-Do you allow fun jumpers? 2-Do you have rental gear? 3-Will I be allowed to jump? 4-How high AGL? (many vegas DZ's LIE. and if they dont LIE they advertise 15,000ft. They never mention thats MSL) 5-How much the vid AND STILLS package is 6-If their is OUTSIDE video or just handicam (with handicam you will not get quality photos. (mesquite is the only dz that offers OUTSIDE video and TRUE digital stills) 7-Price,group price, if you'll get a discount. 8-How many fun jumpers they have there on a regular basis in the summer (It's HOT in Vegas.) 9-How long it will take to get your DVD/photos. Many DZ's mail you a DVD. (mesquite gives you a disc before you leave. You won't be fooled be poor quality) 10-How long it will take to jump 10 tandems 11-If there is a shuttle available. HOW MUCH does it cost?(Many dz's offer this service-Mesquite does not) 12-What kind of plane will be there THAT weekend. That should get you started. Also check out the DZ reviews that is listed on this site. It may help you coem with better questions. Good Luck!!!! HAve FUN, DRINKLOTS OF WATER. (mesquite has free bottled water) As you can see I am heavily leaning toward Mesquite but I am making it obvious. If you dont jump at Mesquite I think SD Las Vegas would be your next best bet. Check out some videos if you'd like. It may give you an Idea of mesquite. And SD Las Vegas Sorry for the multiple typos but this is heavily edited with bold/links etc so I can't quite see them as easily as in a normal post (where I typo anyway)My photos My Videos
