Quote Yosemite Proposal Date Created: 2-22 ... 2023 Proposed Rule #1 All jumpers wishing to visit Yosemite should possess a United States Parachuting Association (USPA) PRO rating. The requirements for obtaining that license include establishing proficiency in landing in small target areas, a necessary skill for BASE jumpers. Each of the 4 incidents in Yosemite that required a search-and-rescue response in the past 20 years were responses to folks who did not have a PRO rating, and likely did not have the skill required to obtain that rating. docs google com/document/d/1e-Aoby3tLLmcflqBm2Ov5rxXyt68YWPPtFVV77jRvj0/edit Yup ... I met Lee (crossfirepilot) prior to Bridge Day 2007; a good dude, nothing negative. However, Uhuck overall reminds me of a movie I recently watched on Amazon Prime called, "Absolutely Anything." -- Excellent concept / premise, Robin Williams wonderfully voices the dog, but horrible execution & atrocious writing. Very Annoying Movie; but thankfully, a good ending. If Uhuck had focused less on the website, keeping their identities secret, selling t-shirts... (among the other referenceable issues) ...& more on the event specifics, low key organizing jumpers & better preparation for probable mass prosecutions, it absolutely could've been productive. Where did you find it? If I recall it right the context of this was, me saying, we are wasting our time trying to 'work' with the NPS in that way. The World BASE Association was mainly Jean Boenish after Carl Boenish died. The Yosemite Skydiving Association was the NoCal guys, Adam, Dennis, etc. The Cliff Jumpers of America is one I was involved with as director of publications. It was essentially the same Norcal people but with the addition of some Socal jumpers, myself, Anne, Todd, and some others. I don't know too much about The Alliance of Backcountry Parachutists. But I think they came about when the Potato Bridge and Moab started to become a thing. The Uhuck group had a website but I just checked and it's gone now. And, I don't recall hearing anything from them since about 2005. The bottom line is all these groups, on some level, were advocating for BASE jumping in National Parks and essentially they all failed. In my opinion - Jean Boenish had more of an effect on the NPS than anyone else since. A Park Ranger once told me, "She's a real thorn in our sides." There's no way I'll ever see legal (or not illegal, or what ever you want to call it) jumping in Yosemite in my lifetime unless we throw enough money at it. This has to be a federal court case, that we win, which causes a federal judge to order the NPS to allow jumping. There is no other way. The photo is the board of The Cliff Jumpers of America having a meeting in NorCal in the 1990s. Edited September 19 by NickDG

Ask and ask and ask and they're just going to say no, and then what. A way lotta years ago a couple of us looked into the ACLU and other similar groups and got no results because we don't represent very many people or some cause. I even handed a videotape and a letter to Gerry Spence once at a book signing, but no response. I think the process is, you apply for a permit and get denied, you appeal that and get denied again, then you can sue above them for a court order. But that would be prohibitively expensive. It would literally take someone like Tom Cruise or Red Bull who would have the interest, the funds, and the platform to make it happen.
