billvon 2,731 #1 Posted September 6 This is getting bigger. NPR has released the names of the people involved. Deputy campaign manager Justin Caporale and Trump advance team member Michel Picard were stopped by a woman who works for the cemetary, who informed them that no photographers other than official Arlington photographers can take photos in the cemetary. She was then shoved aside, and the team continued into the cemetary for a photo-op. The photo-op is now in a Tiktok campaign ad. Since then, Trump has denied the incident ever took place: "There was no conflict or ‘fighting’ at Arlington National Cemetery last week. It was a made up story by Comrade Kamala and her misinformation squad. She made it all up...there was no anything.” This contradicts his own campaign; they claimed that a "despicable individual" had "a mental health episode" and blocked them, and thus they were forced to move her aside. In fact, they have said they will release footage of the event to prove that she was in the wrong, and that their assault on the woman was justified. And now other families are speaking out. One family whose child's tombstone was in the photo op has said "the Trump campaign staffers did not adhere to the rules that were set in place for this visit. We hope that those visiting this sacred site understand that there were real people who sacrificed for our freedom and that they are honored and respected and treated accordingly." Sadly, this will likely result in attacks on this Gold Star family.

If he had said, 'Yeh, we messed up,' a lot of people would let it go, eventually. But, no; he has to say it never happened. Total idiocy. kallend 1,822 #3 September 6 (edited) Trump told over 30,000 well documented lies from Jan 2017 to Jan 2021, and has continued to do so. His true believers simply don't care. Listened to his rambling nonsense news conference, he spends god knows how long criticising judges and then says that it should be a crime to criticise them. "Trump denies sexual assault claim of accuser by saying he wouldn’t have 'chosen' her" this one today. Only trump repeatedly uses the argument that he only sexually assaults attractive women. When the last couple times he used that same argument in court it cost him $88 million. "It didn't happen. She would not have been the chosen one. She would not have been the chosen one." Then he berated his legal council which was standing right behind him saying they did a "terrible job". Perhaps with the new wealth of his DJT stock he figures he can keep playing the same old record.

And his staff were significantly worse, responding by attacking the staff member who they’d already attacked. In addition, they claimed that they’d had approval to break protocol which has been categorically contradicted by the Army, and said they had video to back up their story which they will obviously now refuse to release. It could not be a worse fight for a struggling Republican candidate to pick, and the media need to stay on it like terriers on rats.

The mainstream Republican right has devolved into what only a few years ago were fringe, extremist, cultish and plain fucking wierd thinking in order to justify their support of him. To them now, the gross overconfidence is the point. Doesn't matter if he does know a goddamn thing about any of those subjects he proclaims to be an expert in - the unrepentant arrogance means he's an alpha male, a man's man, a high testosterone individual! People who ever apologise or backtrack are feminised beta boys with too much estrogen sloshing around. Just another occasion where it doesn't matter how insane or toxic or dangerous their rhetoric is as long as they're owning the libs.

Hi Nigel, Re: into the territory of developmentally challenged I'm slowly becoming convinced that this is what is happening to him. IMO it is being driven by his being beaten by a woman. THAT is not something he can deal with. Jerry Baumchen PS) Now, how about that press conference?
