And personally I’d vote for Kamala over Skippy the Wonder Dog, but the dog wins over Trump every time

It would take a helluva lot to dethrone the USD as the world’s most accepted currency, but one potential way to get there is incessantly shitting on any world leaders who aren’t ready to kiss the brass ring…which, in praise of Harris, is something she’s too smart to do.

Winsor says Kamala doesn't know anything about economics, when this sentence shows he doesn't know anything about economics himself.

The US dollar does not derive its value entirely from oil. Believing that's the case means that he misunderstands the global economy on a very fundamental level.

Also, Trump on the economy? He thinks tariffs are paid by the countries exporting to the US  Let's see Brent complain about inflation dwarfing what happened under Biden...

Her non-existent of economics, free market or otherwise, makes her ill suited to handle the overleveraged finances of state she will inherit.

The best case is a Japan style implosion, the worst is either Zimbabwe or Venezuela, all economies that were steered from abundance to something else for various reasons.

Often one administration will sow the seeds of disaster and the next is left holding the bag, which is simply the nature of things.

Thus, the question comes down to when and how bad.  If we decouple the dollar from oil, the tendency will be for the currency to gravitate to its fundamental inherent value, which is zero.  This scenario is the Weimar Republic on steroids, whereby major corporations survived but people died of starvation.

When she relies on Marxist commentary, it does not bode well.  Her opponent is a stable idiot, but at least he has experience with overleveraged organizations and navigating bankruptcy (he stiffs people right and left at the best of times).

I can give examples of economies where people were voted in promising "from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs!," but would have to extrapolate greatly to account for scale and position.  I'm also sure the odd Black Swan will be a factor.

Hi winsor,

People forget that the genius of inflation is that it lowers the value of the national debt. Biden/Harris for the win.

People have been saying the same thing about the debt for as long as I can remember (and I'm pretty old).  I used to say it too.

Amazingly, the $ has survived and the world hasn't ended.

On the whole it doesn't bother me too much any more.

It is interesting, though that the party that makes the most fuss about it is the one that's been in the White House when it has increased the most.  Borrow and Spend, the GOP mantra!

Promises like smoke,

borrowed trust, debts left unpaid—

hypocrite's facade.

Ever since Reagan, Republicans have pretty systematically robbed form the middle and lower-middle class to give to the rich. That has been the actual wealth transfer that has taken place.

Harris may well be the first Presidential candidate I actually voted FOR since my first Presidential election, Reagan's second term in 84 (I was young, idealistic and not terribly experienced).

There are aspects I don't agree with, but overall, she's smart, experienced and seems to actually be a mostly decent person.

As I've said before, I'd vote for Howdy Doody, with Clarabelle the Clown as VP over Donnie von Schitzenpants.

She won, as if winning were the standard, by a mile. Trump showed himself to be the ignorant ass that he is. I'm looking for a 2 point Harris bump.

Make that 3 points. Taylor Swift just endorsed Harris/Walz.

Shouldn't she be concerned that immigrants will eat her cats?

Kamala demonstrated that she can do this job, easily and far better than the orange convict.  Trump is/was deranged and unhinged.

I think the debate should be scored on the number of complete sentences....  But hey, at least she had plans and trump admitted that he has NOTHING to offer on healthcare.... just 'concepts'...... like, y'know, 'more healthcare and everything and they are destroying the country.....'

But immigrants eating your pets?   I am already watching the MAGA types defending these statements as not only accurate, but a 'policy' that THEY will be voting on re: Trump.

It is truly a cult.

I watched the debate on and off between channel surfing.  To me it looked like a repeat of everything each of them have said in the past just now face to face.

Good plan, vignettes always tell the whole story.

I didn't watch either. Nor the one with Biden. I just can't stand them as I find them boring and superficial. I read the reviews to get the overall story. Most of the ones I've seen say she did well, but most of the places I go to favour her over the dotard. In my mind the most important thing is that it's quite clear she did not lose. She did not give the very few undecided or people leaning to either side any reason to move away from her. Which is all she needed to do.

Well, it isn't your country that's up for grabs and either way you'll be stuffed with internet talking points so I can sort of see your lack of concern. The value of the content of the debate is always debatable and often forgettable, no doubt. So the real reason to watch it fore to aft is to see if on her first side by side with Trump if she could come off as appearing Presidential. That's what can turn an election and that she did. Sorry you missed that.

I didn't miss it, and you are on point with the fact that I don't have a vote so it doesn't really matter.

The problem with reviews is that you’re getting the spin, no matter how impartial the source might be.

I thought Harris did really well and definitely nailed it. It was fun to see her bait Trump and she was composed all the way through. I felt the moderators were unfair to her at one point where she tried to drive a point home and they cut her off- despite them letting Trump waffle on multiple times.

I disagree somewhat with the analysis of Trump, he did better than I expected and although most of my news sources focus on his anger as negative- anger resonates with people who are angry at the system. Trumps reaction to crowd size was gold and he looked like she’d kicked him in the nuts.

After him whining that it would be cheating for her to have lifts or something to make her taller beforehand, it really amused me to see how they broadcast headshots so height was irrelevant. Even more so as Trump got more dejected he was slouching and so she appeared taller than him in the split screen.

He certainly had the line of the night with "I have been a leader on fertilisation!"

I'd say 'you know your wife is listening, right?' except the truth is I'd be amazed if she bothered.

I disagree. I think his best line was ‘I saw it on TV’ He thinks Asylum seekers are from mental institutes and Alf is an illegal alien.

To bring it back on topic, what do any of you think was Kamala's best line?
