Let’s take a look at what is happening in the rest of Europe

Germany down nearly 70%

Two quick notes.  First, the last coal power plant finally closed in the UK.  The UK was the very first country to use coal for power 142 years ago, so this has some special significance.  The #1 source of energy in the UK is now wind.

Second, in the area hit by the hurricane, people are turning to EVs since local stations are either out of gas or don't have power to pump gas.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/10/01/tesla-ev-fire-flooding/75468212007/

“The homeowners told Reuters they were asleep when two of their grandchildren heard strange popping noises and woke up the elders to determine when the sound was coming from. The family ran downstairs and were shocked to see their vehicle on fire, forcing them to flee into the street. The blaze engulfed the car and garage in under a minute, Reuters reported.”

Those EV fires are particularly fierce.

The blaze engulfed the car and garage in under a minute, Reuters reported.

40 gas BMW's just randomly burst into flames over the course of a few years - without being flooded.  One such account:

On the night of Dec. 1, 2015, however, Macko says his 2008 BMW X5 suddenly and inexplicably caught fire as it sat parked in his garage in Olney, Maryland. Macko’s wife had just returned from a short drive, parked the car and turned it off. She entered the house and told Macko she noticed a strange smell in the car, and when Macko walked into the garage to check it out, he arrived just in time to hear a “snap, crackle, pop” and see the car burst into flames.

Macko and his wife ran from the house as the fire engulfed the garage and spread throughout both the lower and upper floors. Dozens of firefighters arrived to battle the blaze, and the Mackos watched, from a neighbor’s yard, as their home burned to the ground.

. . . Bill Macko, meanwhile, still isn’t sure when he might be able to return home. He and his wife have been staying with relatives while the rebuilding process inches along at what feels to him like a glacial pace.

“I’d like to sleep in my own bed,” Macko said in March. “We’re working on 15 months, so it would be nice.”

https://abcnews.go.com/Business/bmw-mystery-fires-abc-news-investigation/story?id=47335778#:~:text=Like many car manufacturers%2C BMW has issued recalls, did not have open recalls for fire-related issues.

Funny how the media never reported on them.

"Florida Gas Stations Run Out of Fuel Ahead of Hurricane Milton"

D'oh!

Meanwhile power is still on and the hundreds of thousands of people with EVs in Florida can charge right there in their driveways.  No gas lines.  No gas outages.  No contaminated gas.

It is almost like both have their pros and cons.

But...but...but, what if you drive into flood waters, and need to choose between getting electrocuted in your car, or jumping into the water with the sharks???

I'm sorry, but a single EV getting stranded trumps 1000 gas cars running out of gas. Because we're used to gas cars running out (and we can blame them for being improvident), but those EV cars -- now THAT's news!

It's alternate math.
