Anyone who wants a coupe and still likes to row their gears will continue to enjoy their hobby

Good news for them!  The Hyundai Ioniq 6 now has a fake double clutch 8 speed transmission mode!  You can shift to your heart's delight, and the car won't let you accelerate if you try to start out in 8th gear, and if you leave it in 1st, it will get to about 20mph and then just refuse to accelerate further and scream at you.

That's right, there's also a sound generator that accurately reproduces the sound of a shifted IC engine.  You lose some acceleration with all the shifting, of course, but you can row your gears.

This is great that Hyundai thought of this. Why is it that America is so behind the times and no one here thought of this. This really highlights the downward spiral that America is taking. I miss shifting gears. My first cars I owned were all manual transmissions. My Nissan Frontier I bought specifically because they offered it with a 5-speed manual. Now if only they would allow functionality of plugging in a Logitech USB gear shifter and clutch petal to change gears.

the 2015 Subaru Impreza I had came with a CVT.  It would "fake shift" during acceleration by holding the transmission in a certain ratio, let the rpms climb, and then quickly move to a new ratio.  I found it annoying.  The only way to not do that was to set the cruise and let the car accelerate on its own.  Then it would hold the rpms at the desired level and change the gearing to speed up the car.

The car before that was an Impreza STi, with 6 spd manual, triple cone synchros on 2nd and 3rd. I added the short shifter kit, and got pretty good and heel-toe downshifting.  But after 10 years with it, I was done.

I wonder if the "I love my piped in engine noise" crowd is coming from a racing video game perspective? I couldn't take some fake sounds seriously, but if you were used to racing on a simulator, having that simulated in a real car could feel more natural?

Get an original Tesla Roadster.  Coupe AND a manual transmission.

Why in hell would anyone want a stick for a transportation car these days unless they also miss roll up windows? It gives your hand something to do if you can't get dates, I suppose.

Hey! My 2006 Wrangler has a stick and rollup windows!

Manual windows would have allowed Jessica Savitch to get out of her Oldsmobile when she backed into a canal at Odette's.

Manual transmissions are better suited to negotiating hilly terrain without overheating brakes.
