List of Jumpers I Should Have Heard of...?

Recommended Posts

Back when I started the sport, an older jumper mentioned to me that he found it annoying that a lot of the younger jumpers didn't recognize (or hadn't heard of) distinguished jumpers from the past and even the present.
In your opinion, is there a list of skydivers you think all of us should be familiar with? Who are they? (Aside from yourself, of course ;)...

There's a couple lists.

- Historical:

Sanborn, Istel, Ottley, Morehead, White. There are others, but those are the first that come to mind.

- Pioneers, but a little more recent:

Bill Booth, Ted Strong, Dan Poynter. Again, there are others.

- Champions:

Dan BC, Kirk Verner, Rook and Missy Nelson, Eli Thompson. Again, many many others.

Camera:

Norman Kent, Joe Jennings, Greg Gasson, Brian Buckland. Again, many others.

One good reason to know who the "names" are is because a few of them post on here.
And sometimes people don't quite realize who they are. It can get a "bit" amusing.

And don't forget the most famous of all skydivers...

DB Cooper :)

Who else has a thread of over 1000 pages (pages, not posts).

And for completely different reasons:
- Ted Nelson
- Sangi

Yeah, I was thinking of including the "Learn from their lessons" category, both dead and alive.

It would include the Madd Skilz crowd like you listed, but it could also include those who pushed the limits just a bit too far.
Patrick De Guyon, Shane McConkey, Eli, JT and others.

No there's no need to hero worship, and he was just being a grumpy old fart.

That said it is nice to know milestone people and general trivia.
