Erroll 74 #1 Posted June 3 Unusual sight to see South Africa playing Sri Lanka on Long Island, NY! 5 months ago there was nothing - now there is the lovely (temporary) Nassau stadium, complete with drop-in pitch. Hopefully the USA is inspired to become a bigger competitor in cricket.

Headline over here ' Sensational upset awakens USA from 100 year cricket hibernation'. I doubt that'll really be the case (it was a BBC headline after all) nevertheless, for anyone who has any interest in the game it was brilliant all round - most especially the super over. As with most unfancied teams who put one over a far bigger and more experienced team, the USA may now have played their 'final'. Time will of course tell.

SethInMI 156 #5 June 12 my exposure to cricket was initially through Douglas Adams "Life, the universe, and everything", and that happily has stuck with me. --------- "The game you know as cricket," he said, and his voice still seemed to be wandering lost in subterranean passages, "is just one of those curious freaks of racial memory which can keep images alive in the mind aeons after their true significance has been lost in the mists of time. Of all the races on the Galaxy, only the English could possibly revive the memory of the most horrific wars ever to sunder the Universe and transform it into what I'm afraid is generally regarded as an incomprehensibly dull and pointless game. "Rather fond of it myself," he added, "but in most people's eyes you have been inadvertently guilty of the most grotesque bad taste. Particularly the bit about the little red ball hitting the wicket, that's very nasty."
