A little thread derailment here. But it begs the question.Given that trump and FOX were the leaders in such disinformation.

Why isn't Biden's lead in the polls larger?

Because as vile and odious as Trump is, Biden is older and Kamala is blacker and a female. Voting for Trump, or just not voting, is a no brainer.

Nope. There were a fair amount of people who saw it for what it was.
We saw what was happening in China, in Italy, in lots of places...
And then heard Trumpty Dumpty pretend it was 'just like the flu' so that the economy wouldn't suffer.
Once I saw reports of the Chinese welding doors to apartment buildings shut to enforce the quarantine, I knew it was going to be a big deal.

Yes, no doubt because I conscientiously wore a mask , got vaccinated at the first opportunity, and had all the boosters.

If Horace Cain had done the same he might still be alive.

If you look at the state by state per capita fatalities, there is a clear correlation with the rhetoric being spouted by the politicians.

Huh.  I didn't think or pretend it wasn't dangerous.  It was.  Most of the healthcare professionals I know thought the same.  The only question was how lucky we would be; if we could have kept it bottled up when there were five cases we would have bought more time for both vaccine development and incidental low dose exposure providing immunity.

BTW the same thing is happening right now with H5N1.  It has made the jump from birds to mammals.  Now 20% of US dairy cows have it, raw milk from them has caused H5N1 infection in rodents, and a large percentage of dairy cats have tested positive.  Two dairy workers have caught it so far, but fortunately it has not spread.  If we are lucky, it will stop there - but it is a dangerous disease, and we should keep our guard up.

You said, "Right.  The odds are low but they are there.  (Of course, that's true of flu as well; it could mutate and cause a lot more deaths.)  Again, best approach - hand washing, flu shot, stay home when you are sick." ~Post 11 of the covid thread.

Even the WHO didn't declare it a pandemic until March 11th which at that time was 24k deaths - a number much lower than the annual flu deaths. Before we completely derail the EV thread - We all learned quite a bit and I hope that future generations won't pause.

Yes.  Which is the same position I am now taking with H5N1.  If we had been lucky with COVID then it would have been a non-event.  We were not.  So far we've been lucky with H5N1.  I hope that luck continues to be with us.

Neither approach is "pretending it wasn't dangerous."

Who cares if we derail a thread, you need to get over that: this ain't the army. Besides, if EV's caused Covid and now another bird flu inquiring minds want to know.

Pretty sure Bill Gates caused COVID by injecting all those people with his so-called vaccines.

Dairy Cats? Is that were soy milk comes from?

I think until H5N1 reached human to human transmission and has R>1 there really isn't much change of widespread infection.
