My point is that the family who sent him to Mississippi and the family members with whom he stayed there were fully aware of just how dangerous were the people who killed him, and they failed to make that clear. He was unaware of how dangerous it was to be friendly with a white woman, and he was murdered as a result. "Perpetuating the evil?". You're projecting. ryoder 1,590 #128 July 28, 2023 I just watched the PBS documentary I posted in post 111. A couple things I learned: 1. The jury (all white of course) acquitted based on the defense's argument that they could not prove the body found was Emmett Till. Thanks of course to the face being beaten beyond recognition. 2. 4 months after the trial, the two murderers sold their story to "Look" magazine for $4000. Thanks to double jeopardy rules, they could tell what they did without fear of prosecution. Their story did not impicate anyone else, although there is suspicion other people may have been involved.

No, remember he’s not blaming the victim. He’d blame the victim’s mother for not teaching her to dress more modestly. Because, err, that’s better somehow. You are right, as you pose the question. I wasn't trying to defend Winsor, per se, I was more thinking of Feynman's initial explanation in his "The world From Another Point of View". Victim blaming is not only offensive but it is also low hanging fruit. Thar be dragons. "Geronimo. For God and Country, Geronimo." That's the problem. That's what we're up against and that is what is undermining our democracy. Edited July 30, 2023 by JoeWeber

billvon 2,877 #140 August 3, 2023 Meanwhile, in other Florida news, Florida is now making headlines for . . . leprosy. There's a big outbreak there in people that don't have the usual risk factors (weakened immune systems etc.) "Florida, USA, has witnessed an increased incidence of leprosy cases lacking traditional risk factors. Those trends, in addition to decreasing diagnoses in foreign-born persons, contribute to rising evidence that leprosy has become endemic in the southeastern United States. Travel to Florida should be considered when conducting leprosy contact tracing in any state." I can see it now. "Hey Mr. Smith I looked at your chart, and the exam has been . . interesting. Have you traveled to Niger, Somalia, central China or Florida recently?" https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/29/8/22-0367_article

DeSantis is now requiring middle schools to teach that black people received a "personal benefit" from slavery because they "developed skills." And in high school? They now have to teach that the Ococee massacre, where 500 blacks were killed by the KKK, included "acts of violence perpetrated against and by African Americans." The evil part of me wants to see middle school teachers teach that modern sex slavery has some benefits, especially for young girls. Think of the skills they could learn. And that Christians participated in the 9/11 attacks. "Hey, DeSantis said that we have to teach both sides!" The jews got valuable skills in the concentration camps as well. Phil1111 1,138 #145 August 13, 2023 Republicans in Texas have become worried that voters may become too educated costing the party votes in the long run. So they have started to close the libraries in schools and turning them into disciplinary rooms for disruptive students. Probably meaning students with learning disabilities. At a recent protest about these actions by republican Gov. Greg Abbott protestors had signs stating even prisons have libraries. Elected school board officials are being replaced by GOP appointees. Including ones who have lost recent elections.

After 50 years of castrations they now have switched to Counseling as the appropriate method of treatment. So many sad stories... My son thought he should be able to drive my car at 9 ... I didn't let him.. He wanted a tattoo at 10... No way... He wanted a cigarette at 12 ... No again... At 13 he believed he should be allowed to drink alcohol and smoke pot... We said no. I did NOT AFFIRM any of these crazy ideas. There is no connection between raising your child and Integrated Marriage ... Things change with time. When I was a child abuse investigator in the 1970's, the stated rule was that children never lie about sexual abuse. Never. Think that still holds? Nope, it doesn't. Because publicity (i.e. 24 hour news, the internet, etc) makes everything a moving piece. Children are smart enough to use that as a weapon, whether for good or for evil. But assuming that parents are always right, and that children must therefore be lying if they accuse them of sexual abuse it at least as wrong. Same with gender transition in Sweden. They haven't stopped it completely, but are strictly limiting it because of soaring numbers. Think publicity. From an article in France24.com Quote Sweden decided in February 2022 to halt hormone therapy for minors except in very rare cases, and in December, the National Board of Health and Welfare said mastectomies for teenage girls wanting to transition should be limited to a research setting. ... Like many other countries, Sweden has seen a sharp rise in cases of gender dysphoria, a condition where a person may experience distress as a result of a mismatch between their biological sex and the gender they identify as. I realize that it's a little more nuanced, and not as easily drawn with crayons and sharpies, but that's more what the real world is like.
