what do you need to do to become a licensed skydiver?

Find a dropzone near you, follow their instruction program, whatever it is.

what gear will I need when I start skydiving?

Nothing. You should be supplied with gear by the dropzone. Don't worry about this now.

How much would second hand gear cost?

It depends on the age and condition. Don't worry about this now.

how much does it cost to become licensed?

It depends on where you are and the kind of training program.

You really need to start by doing the basic research of locating and contacting a dropzone near you.

"So many fatalities and injuries are caused by decisions jumpers make before even getting into the aircraft. Skydiving can be safe AND fun at the same time...Honest." - Bill Booth

Money!!!

Lizenz:
Arround $2000 up to 3000 Euro or even more depending on where you are

Gear:
Helmet, rig, altimeter, audible, gloves, jumpsuit ect ect... buy everything new and you will have to invest about $8000-$9000
buying used can save some money of course

Jumps:
ticket prices can vary from $20 up to 45 Euros (Switzerland) and even more. 150 jumps a year can therefore cost from $3000 up to 6750 Euro depending on where you jump

driving cost to get to the dropzone, boogies, additional gear like a second jumpsuit, wingsuit, tunnel time, teaching like canopy control courses and workshops is not for free either...

And of course everything mentioned above depends on you and your attitude towards this sport, your time and so on ...
Do you want to be the one doing 20 solos a year or maybe 300+?
You dont need a $7000 rig for 20 jumps, rental would be the best choice then but like mentioned before, everything depends on you ...

better start saving now
