Big changes for Twitter

You were presenting a unrealistic “what if” scenario so it didn’t warrant a realistic response.

Not at all. I was simply exposing that you don't give a rats ass about other equal but different humans who only want to live the one life they've been gifted on the same terms as you, not that it was needed for this audience.

Per my edit

Should a Muslim halal caterer be forced to provide food at a gay orgy?

Per an actual relevant point - given that Musk can simply decide on the level of moderation he wants Twitter to have, why is 5000 people losing their jobs a good thing?

Because it's becoming more and more apparent that Musk is on Putin's side.

Removing that much moderation will allow the trolls in St Petersburg free reign.

You know, Trump is awesome, Ukrainians are all Nazis, Covid vaccines are dangerous, all that sort of shit that the gullible idiots fall for.

Honestly I think those tweets came from simple ignorance and a need to be the centre of attention rather than pushing a pro-Putin agenda.

We should be careful to recognise that Musk is actually providing a hugely important and very expensive service to Ukraine for free and footing the bill himself - I don’t think the likes of Boeing, Lockheed, AT&T can say the same. So while he is an asshole who doesn’t know when to shut up, his company has (so far) really gone above and beyond in support of Ukraine.

ArsTechnica: US might bail Musk out by blocking Twitter deal over national security

...Bloomberg reports that the Biden administration is considering launching national security reviews into Musk’s Twitter and Starlink satellite Internet deals. Those reviews could end up blocking the Twitter deal after all, which many commenters think is exactly what Musk wants.

LOL!

I'm not a big Musk fan, but it is clear that he is a complicated man with a mix of motivations. Some noble and some crass.

Well, there are reports he met with Putin.

I'm not sure I believe them, but the tweet about Russia's demands (keep Crimea, elections, ect) were pretty much pro-Putin.

And he floated the idea of charging Ukraine for Starlink.
That idea was withdrawn after the backlash, but he still threw it out there.

I agree that he's an asshole, but I'm not so sure about the 'above and beyond' part of his support.

Right, he floated the idea of charging for it (which really means the US government paying) but he is still providing it for free. What other major American companies are doing the same?

I don't like Elon Musk and anything he stands for, but one of his actions I can get behind:

What were the ex-CEO and executives doing that you disagreed with?

They did a fantastic job for shareholders in the price they realized for a money losing operation. If you think they ran a social media company into the ground. You'd be right.

I guess this is that amazing Free Speech:

Those of us who are old enough to remember Usenet recall that level of "free speech."

30% erectile dysfunction pill ads
20% letters from the Nigerian Minister of Finance
20% posts from hot girls in your neighborhood who want to meet you
10% pedophile porn
9% strings of obscenities
1% content

Oh yes, I remember rec.skydiving too well, (aka wreck.skydiving). I was first on it back in the late 1980's at college.

Years later, I was delighted to learn about dropzone.com with actual moderators to filter out the garbage.

Musk will soon figure out that the value of Twitter is tied to moderation. All social networks eventually figure out they cannot exist without moderation.
