Skydiving in the UK - BPA membership mandatory?

To jump in the UK, is the BPA membership mandatory?
Last time I had a one month membership with BPA, but I'm not sure if I need this as I'm now member of the German equivalent.

Secondly, what type of insurance do I need? (to jump with own rig or rental rig) Does BPA membership includes any insurance?

BPA membership is mainly insurance. Not sure if your German equivalent will cover you as well but if it doesn't include insurance then BPA is probably required.

The club may also charge a membership fee.

If the DfV membership includes third-party insurance of at least €1.3M (and I believe it does since many German nationals have skydived using it at RAPA near Paderborn) then you do not need to purchase BPA membership. BPA membership includes £5M third party insurance.

Take a look at http://www.bpa.org.uk/where-can-i-jump/.

For near Cambridge I'd recommend my own dropzone (of course!), the North London Skydiving Centre for it's Twin Otter (only one in the UK) and probably the cheapest jump tickets. Birmingham is equidistant from Hinton, Langar and Tilstock (only open Friday/Saturdays).

For Cambridge I would recommend Sibson or Chatteris - more going on at Sibson, better plane at Chatteris.
