Oh, and sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead.

Relax.
Some of us old farts prefer to have all comments on one subject on one thread. Having all the comments on one thread makes it easier to research a topic. We don't care if there is a year or three gap between postings.

Leaving aside the more common stuff, the few unusual planes I've jumped from are:

de Havilland Dash 8

Blanik glider (sitting out on the wing leading edge)

Short Sherpa (Not mentioned yet but not that unusual as at least one has been on the jump circuit in recent years.)

C-180 on floats (Climb rate sucked, but you could line your four-way up on a float and step off..)

My rarest by far is the ATL 98 Carvair, a double decker DC 4 mod made by Freddy Laker in the UK. It came to WFFC in 2005. Also jumped from a C 54G, the mil version of the DC 4, also at WFFC in about 2000.

Check it out: http://aviationtraderscarvair.com/n89fa.htm

My list:

Aeronca Sedan
C 180
C 182
C 195
C 206
C 208
AN 2
Beech 18 (C-45)
Fairchild 71
Howard DGA
DC 3 (C-47)
DC 4 (C-54)
DC 9
C 130A
CASA 212
PAC 750
DHC 3
DHC 6
Skyvan
Schweizer 2-24 wood glider
Balloon (mfr unknown)
Bell 212
Aérospatiale Alouette
Sikorsky S 58T
Lockheed 18 Lodestar
ATL 98 Carvair (DC-4 mod)

WISHLIST:

Boeing C-97 (mil version of Boeing 377 Stratocruiser)
Lockheed Connie
Douglas DC-6
Douglas DC-7

Might have a shot at the C-97, the others on the wish list are now very unlikely. Showed up for 3 different Connie jumps, never got to jump. On one, at California City CA, the plane (a surplus C-121C Super Connie) showed but high winds kept everything grounded and no jumps were made. The other two were post 2000 WFFC events where the MATS Connie was a no show. Bummer.

Check THIS plane out: https://sites.google.com/site/boeing377/c133

The C 133 would have made a great big way jumpship if you owned an oil refinery. Amazingly it was purchased for $6500 surplus. I saw it make its last landing at Travis AFB on August 30, 2008 where it is now a static display.

Maybe we could classify jump-planes by their type of door.
May I suggest the following classification system? Once a jumper has made a few jumps from one airplane in that class (e.g. ramp) then we could coach them on the subtle differences between a Skyvan ramp and a Chinook ramp.

Cessna side door - 170, 172, 175, 180, 182, 185, 205, 206 and 207.

Small side door - Beech 18, Cessna 206

Medium-sized side door - Beaver, Cherokee Six, Dornier 27, King Air, Porter, Queen Air

Large side door - Airvan, Antonov 2, Cessna Caravan, C-47, Dornier 28, Huey helicopter, Kodiak, Single Otter, Twin Otter

Ramp - Arava, Buffalo, Cariboo, Chinook, Hercules, Skyvan

The Arava had a ramp? Did you guys take the tail cone off? I like the different door idea though, maybe a list if the different hazards on each type too!

............................................................................

Arava is like C-119 Flying Boxcar and Nordatlas in that you need to remove the tail cone before you jump off the "ramp."

More modern military transports (Antonov, C-130 Hercules, C-17, Chinook, Skyvan, Transal, etc.) allow you to open AND CLOSE the ramp multiple times during the same flight.

Wow, looking thru this thread and considering my own list sure brings back a lot of memories. Here's the ones I recall.

MX-2 Quicksilver Ultralight
Piper Cub
C-170
C-172
C-180
C-182
C-185
C-206 (Turbo 206)
T-207 (Soloy turbine conversion)
C-208
C-210
C-411
Skyvan
Beech-18
BE35 Bonanza
Cherokee 6
QueenAir

R-44
Hughes 500
UH-1 Huey Helicopter
MI-8 (Russian helicopter)

Turbine Porter
PAC 750
KingAir
DC-3
Turbine DC-3
Twin Otter
G-222
C-130

My favorite so far? Gotta be the C-130. But not always practical on slow weekends. :D

During the WFFC days my wife and I were raising a young family, so we never got to travel much and jump the exotics, like the jets and the Connie. Some of the local jumpers made jumps from the roving B-17 bomber when it was up here a few years ago. Maybe some day.B|

Speaking of jump-planes with hydraulic tail ramps ... Embraer just rolled out the KC-390 prototype. It is slightly bigger than a C-130 and its pair of turbofans will make it considerably faster. Embraer claims that their KC-390 will carry 80 para-troopers.
Embraer is planning the first flight for early 2015.

I wonder which lucky Brazilian Army paratroopers will be the first to jump the KC-390?

It's funny, but I had lusted after the Turbine DC-3 ever since seeing one the Forest Service owned. When I finally jumped out of one was during a 2 week boogie in Thailand, jumping from the C-130s everyday, so it was a little anti-climactic. :D
