Different Jumping Planes

Recommended Posts

Hi All,
Just curious about all the different planes that people jump out of.

The dz that I have been going to has a twin otter, so thats pretty much the only thing I know. I hear other terms like king air, 182, caravan, etc, and Im curious to know the specs for each plane (which can get to altitude quickest, max speed, etc.). I can find the specs once I know the names of the different planes...
:)

Anyone have a list of all planes that are skydiver friendly?

My short list in the order that I've jumped them:

Cessna Caravan
(not sure of my experience in it as I only did one tandem jump from it and didn't really pay that much attention to the details)

Antonov-2
(A lot of head room)

Cessna 182
(takes for ever to get to 10k but is nice and comfy)

de Havilland Beaver Turbine
(Really fast up to altitude, kind of cramped if they put ten jumpers in there)
Blue skies!

Specs are best found in Jane's All the World's Aircraft, or manufacturer's websites. Just remember that some of those specs were written by compulsive liars ... er ... marketing managers.
The toughest numbers - to find - are "time to altitude" (the number jumpers car about) and "total time per load" (the number manifestors, pilots, mechanics and bean counters care about).

I have jumped:

A-Star helicopter
Alouette 2 helicopter
Beechcraft D-18, C-45, Westwind turbine conversion, Queen Air and King Air
Bell UH-1 Huey helicopter
Breezy (homebuilt)
Britten-Norman Islander
Bushmaster (copy of Ford Tri-Motor)
Cessna 172, Rheims Rocket, 180, 182, 185, 205, P206, U206 (both piston and turbine engines), 207, 208, 210 and 421
Chinook helicopter
DeHavilland Buffalo, Cariboo and Twin Otter
Dornier 27
Dornier 228
Douglas DC-3 and C-47
Gippsland Airvan
Kockertalle Bridge
Lockheed C-130 Hercules
Maule
Pilatus Porter
Piper Cherokee Six
Shorts Skyliner
Shorts Skyvan
