Abortion Commentary

Hi folks,

As we all have often wondered, what does the dog do when it catches the car:

Less than six months after celebrating their decades long goal of toppling Roe v. Wade, conservatives saw their hard-fought court victory galvanize abortion-rights supporters to outspend and outvote them in the midterms.

They are lashing out at McConnell —

The divisions among anti-abortion groups and Republican leaders threaten to undercut a movement that for decades has shaped party platforms, tipped the scales in primaries, and helped steer the federal judiciary rightward.

So odd to lash out at the one guy who did more than anyone to facilitate Roe v Wade getting overturned.

Turns out abortion is a First Amendment issue:

https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253547/the-satanic-temple-to-open-free-abortion-clinic-in-new-mexico

Their approach reminds me of the SVNA, or Students for Violent Non Action, an activist in Chicago in the late '60s.  The name, like that of the Samuel Alito's Mom's Satanic Abortion Clinic, was pretty much a raspberry to their detractors.

This should be amusing.

It shouldn't be. In fact, I'm disappointed Jewish hospitals haven't initiated something similar, considering the Jewish views on when life begins (not at conception).  If the extremists want to cite their "Christian" values as the reason to ban abortion, then all other religious arguments for the contrary are absolutely on par -- including TST.

Religion has always been the excuse. The real reason has always been a desire to control women

The GOP busibodies who stick their noses into women's reproductive organs have struck again.

In Wyoming, which has  illegal to made it illegal "to prescribe, dispense, distribute, sell or use any drug for the purpose of procuring or performing an abortion."

And they're working on defining any abortion at all as murder in S. Carolina, with no exception for rape.

Wow, looks like it's time to revise the anthem and get rid of the "land of the free" part.

Interesting how "life" is defined by these folks as a "heartbeat" at this point, but "not alive" is measured by brain activity.  If you have to terminate a pregnancy at the 20th week, it's usually because there is no (or will be no) brain activity, but women have been forced to carry a non-viable fetus for several days/weeks because it is "alive."  These morons should first agree on a definition of "life" that covers the whole span.  If a heartbeat (don't even get me started on what that zygote really has at 4 weeks past fertilization) is the definition of alive, then we can stop learning CPR and dispose of all defibrillators. They're already dead, so you just have to call it when the heart stops.

If you pound on someone's chest, or shock them, after their heart stops, then you should be charged with mutilating a corpse.

In 2012, WY enacted an amendment to state constitution iin effort to thwart ACA, containing the text:

"Each competent adult shall have the right to make his or her own health care decisions."

And now a judge has blocked the new abortion ban, based on the principle that amendment means what it says:

Vox: Thanks, Obama! The hilarious reason why a judge just blocked Wyoming’s abortion ban.

"But your Honor, the intent of that amendment was clear - to own the libs!  And allowing women to choose does not own the libs."

So  Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk, well known anti abortion advocate, has suspended the FDA approval of Mifepristone, siding with religion over science.

The plaintiffs in the case shopped for a place to file suit knowing that the judge would be their guy.

There is something VERY wrong in America right now when a single, admittedly biased, unelected, cherry picked judge can dictate policy to the entire nation.

The culture wars are completely out of hand. It seems like insanity on so many issues in the US at the moment. Will there be a backlash or will good people sit on their hands? Stay tuned for November 2024.

Can still use aidaccess.org to obtain the pills, or go to the vet.  Used for the same purpose as well as stomach ulcers in pets.  Don't know about dosage differences though.

Hi John,

It seems that some people do not agree with Judge K:  “The federal judge in the eastern district of Washington JUST granted our request to preserve access to Mifepristone pending the outcome of our case. My team is carefully reviewing both orders right now, and we will have more to say soon,” Rosenblum ( Oregon Attorney General ) said

None of that matters. Have you not read that the judge in Trump's hooker pay off election fraud forgot to tell his wife or Ivanka case once donated 35 bucks to Biden? Focus, man, focus

Hi folks,

More insanity in Idaho:  Idaho patients, including teenagers, have long crossed into Washington state to legally end their pregnancies.

New Idaho law creates crime of ‘abortion trafficking’ - oregonlive.com

Once again, the Catholics are living in the Dark Ages.

PS)  I consider Jay Inslee one of the best governors in this nation:  In response to potential legal threats, on April 27, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, a Democrat, signed a series of bills barring law enforcement from cooperating with other states’ abortion investigations. Those laws shield medical providers from lawsuits and protect their medical licenses from being revoked.

CO did a similar thing last year:

Gov. Jared Polis issues executive order protecting Colorado’s abortion providers and out-of-state patients

Gotta wonder if the Alt-right is going to try to revive the Fugitive Slave Act.

And if they do, would the SC uphold it?

No, I'm not totally serious on this...

But I'm also not being totally sarcastic.

Big defeat for the reich wing in Montana:

Just stop. Montana has been voting Republican since 1952 (I think only a couple of times has a Democrat won). Trump ran unopposed in Montana and won all 27 delegates. I have several moderate Republican veteran friends living there and visit them often - they/we are like-minded. You can thank the moderate Republicans who think this is more right than not.

Not every Republican is "Reich, Facist, Racist, Cuckservative, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc. etc. Enough already. Man that gets old.

I was not referring to all Republicans. I was referring to the subset who does not want to represent the citizens, but seeks power to rule the citizens. AKA the MAGA subset.
