Jerry Baumchen I read the transcript and I find it believable that he was experienced before. He was hand flying the aircraft, that is to say it was not on autopilot when he took over or put on autopilot subsequently, and was changing frequencies, taking cell phone numbers, holding altitudes and headings and saying dumb stuff like: "So, I've got the coast in my headlights" during daylight hours and then "10-4. What heading do I need to be at....". Maybe he's a one in a many millions winner or a long time game player but I've seen qualified candidates deviate more with only minor unexpected distractions introduced. We'll see.
