What do you say to someone before a jump?

Recommended Posts

As the subject line asks.

I'm in the middle of finishing my PFF in Canada, so I'm very new to all of this. I recently wished someone "good luck" with their upcoming jump. No one reacted to me saying it but it felt weird... Won't be saying it again.

I'm not talking about wishing "blue skies", because that's too typical.

Opinions?

I don't say "good luck" - I want to keep luck as small a part of a successful jump as possible! "Have FUN!" is typically what goes around the planes at my DZ along with the hand-slap-fist-bump. Might seem cliché but if you aren't having fun up there, what are you doing up there... ;)

I say, "I love you", but that's because I'm usually jumping with Normiss. You might ruffle a few feathers if you say that to people, so I'd stick with , "have fun!".

It depends completely on who I'm saying it to.

Good friend and long time jump partner:
"Don't fuck it up"

Reasonably new jumper who I haven't jumped with much before:
"Don't fuck it up, that's my job"

To which the above mentioned good friend will add:
"He isn't kidding"

Experienced jumper who I haven't jumped with before:
"Have fun"

Newer jumper who I'm not jumping with (student of some sort):
"Don't forget to have fun"

TI who is a friend with nervous student:
"Don't forget - if you lose another one, they're gonna fire you"
"There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy

surprising nobody's posted this yet. but if I'm last solo in front of the load of tandems I always use the Patrick Swayze quote " SEE YOU IN HELL Johnny" :P

i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . My response. Naw I wasn't low I'm just such a big guy I look closer than I really am .

At my home DZ we often say "Don't fuck it up". This would be someone I have jumped with before, so they understand that it is all in good fun.
Someone brand new off of student status "Woooohoooo" with a nice hand gesture or whathaveyou.

"Have a good one", with a thumbs up without the hand slides and fist bumps.

A few of us are asshole. We tell each other to "Have a long one" once in a while ;)

Normally, no need to say anything after the fancy fist bumps...
