It looks as if Putin is following Xi's play book on international negotiations. He has started taking hostages. The US state department has now recommended that all US citizens leave Russia immediately.

Many women's professional basketball players decide to play in Russia during the WNBA's offseason for a chance to compete and take advantage of the high salaries overseas teams offer. Griner has made as much as $1.5 million a year in Russia, while she had a base salary of $215,000 last season for the Mercury. 

 

It is hard not to think that this woman pretty much deserves whatever happens now. The rest of the world is shunning greed and she is embracing it.

I assumed she was on her way out of the country. But no, she was arrested on her way into the country. I mean, you travel to Russia now, you are taking your chances.

When you go to another country, don't even appear to break any laws,  some of which are different.  Don't think you have the same rights as you do here.  You could end up getting caned for vandalizing cars.

I worked with some of the people whose cars were vandalized, and their opinion was that the vandal very much got what he deserved.

You worked with people whose cars were vandalised in Singapore in the early ‘90s (allegedly) by a kid whose subsequent caning was an international incident?
