Bio diesel?

Why, Brent? Are you that much of a player for the petrochemical industry that you are unable to help advance a simple conversation? Lippy's chunky joke was an actual joke. You're just exposing yourself, again. Bio-Diesel has huge failings, Solar has issues, Wind has it's own problems, but also, no one who paid for his trip expected Columbus to return. We advance prospectively, that's how it works. From climbing down into a savannah crowded with predators, to hazarding across a tenuous land bridge, to recognizing that collaboration is a better strategy than going it alone, to being able to measure with precision the molecules in our atmosphere, those are the bread crumbs that lead us to where we are today. Constantly you point out todays reality as seen through your lens. But there is no today. Every today is already part way to being a yesterday. What you want matters not, just the way it is.

Whoa, easy there cowboy! I was making the observation that the oil in peanuts could be refined into a form of biodiesel. Just pointing out that Kallend’s off the cuff comment had some fragment of truth buried within it.

No you weren't, you were gathering nut fragments to put back in the shell.

Yeah but only creamy. Chunky fucks shit up in a hurry

Back in the 1950s Rolls Royce developed a tank engine that they claimed could run on almost anything that could burn, including peanut butter.  And, of course, Diesel's original engines ran on peanut oil.

If you get it hot enough.

You can run most modern diesels on SVO (straight vegetable oil) which in turn you can get from fast food places almost for free, since they just throw the stuff out when they are done with it.  But that also has to be kept very hot, usually over 90C.  Most practical designs either mix SVO and diesel or have two tanks - they start the engine on straight diesel then switch over after the heater kicks in and warms up the SVO.

Sure, but viscosity is a factor. SVO as a fuel in cold environments needs to be managed,

This is kind of stupid. No one is going to use biodiesel in the Abrams tank, at least certainly not in Ukraine during wintertime.

As subsequent comments demonstrate, if anyone other than hutch had replied to Dr. Kallend with that word it would have been met with complete agreement. He has some of you conditioned like Pavlov’s dogs.

Now that the professor has schooled you, it was. But the truth is you were intentionally slamming bio fuels. We aren't your acolytes, don't be so boring.

Don’t be so hair-triggered, it’s common knowledge that vegetable oil can be used as a substitute for diesel, no schooling required.

That's not all that's common knowledge here. No matter, the good news is that Germany is saying Poland sending German made Leopard 2's to Ukraine won't be a problem. Now maybe we facilitate that somehow.

SDP likes to ensure the wind is blowing in the right direction. Now that they have ascertained that the wind sock is working. German media reports government has approved sending Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine

Germany appears to be neck and neck with Canada:"The commander of the 10th Tank Division reported to his superiors that during an exercise with 18 Puma infantry fighting vehicles, all 18 of them broke down....There is a lack of munitions and equipment – and arms deliveries to Ukraine have only worsened the situation. "The cupboards are almost bare," said Alfons Mais, inspector general of the German army, at the beginning of the war. André Wüstner, head of the German Bundeswehr Association, seconds him: "We continue to be in free fall."

Our former minister of defence was quick to blame the manufacturer and she started to question the whole program.
Yesterday came out a new report and the army had to admit that the  problem was based on user error and lack of training.
Neither version sheds a good light on our military or  their leadership.

When you're starved of money equipment, training and leadership will all suffer. Because of Putin's war Japan is also on track to expand its military abilities. It's planning to match Germany defense spending at 2% of GDP within two years. Although Japan sees China as the biggest threat.

Fear.

Scholz is afraid of Putin.

On a happier note, Germany is sending Leopards and allowing others to do so. There are some pretty strict rules about reselling military equipment. The country of origin has control over where their stuff ends up. So without Germany's approval, Poland or anyone else couldn't send Leopards anywhere.

Britain is also sending Challengers.

And the US will be sending Abrams.

All three will take some time before they actually get deployed, but it's a start.
