sfzombie13 307 #1 Posted February 6, 2022 well, on the plus side it's only prostate cancer and they caught it way early. but it's still cancer and very expensive in the us. fortunately, i have va healthcare so that helps a lot. the thing that doesn't is that the lack of work has us broke with no savings after taking over the farm when my ex passed suddenly. it also doesn't help much with the bills that are gonna start piling up quick after the surgery. i'd much rather someone hire me for some remote sys admin, noc, or soc work. anyway, i started a gofundme for help. pass it along if you're able. i appreciate it. hope you're all having a good weekend. positive vibes sent my way are also much appreciated. not all skies are blue all the time. take what you can when you can. and have regular checkups, my doc at the va found this by going the extra mile. psa was high, but not over the threshold. saved my life when he stuck that finger up my arse. hopefully; it ain't quite over yet. Rustbucket350 40 #2 February 20, 2022 You're not alone. I'm new here (and to skydiving in general). I thought I had testicular cancer about a year ago and everything that mattered to me disappeared. The doctors were sure I had it and I was sure. Turned out I didn't have it for now (I'm high risk) but I'll never forget the people who just seemed to not even care. That's part of the reason I started skydiving. I figured I might as well live instead of exist. Living to survive and actually being alive are definitely separate. Keep on being alive.
Bokdrol 40 #3 February 20, 2022 I was diagnosed with a BCC (basal cell carcinoma) on my nose about 5 years ago. This was after seeing a Twitter post from that Aussie Bloke who starred in Wolverine and who had a Dr friend point out that he had a BCC on his nose which needed seeing to. He (Wolverine) advised people to keep an eye out for the symptoms. Posted a picture of his nose with a blemish on it and I thought, hey, I've got one of those too....Having grown up in Africa and served in the forces there I never used sunblock.... until I got to England.....don't laugh, the sun can get fierce here too. On a positive note, a BCC is unlikely to prove fatal and the treatment in the UK is free. I've had it removed and now have just a slight scar/patch on my nose. So to all you skydivers who live in hot sunny countries, keep your eyes peeled and watch out for little light coloured patches on (mainly) your face, and which might appear unannounced. And use F50 sunblock. On a more humorous note, there was a C list celeb here in the UK who got a bit of tabloid press a few years ago, having 'survived a cancer scare'. Turns out it was (only) a BCC, not really life threatening, but they did up their profile for a day or two. Seriously though, all the best to any C sufferers out there and 'vasbyt' as they say in the SA Military.
freethefly 6 #4 June 15, 2022 I went through surgery and radiation for colorectal cancer last year. Got two doctor appointments this week and then off to the drop zone. Both, surgery and radiation was painful but, I’m still here to jump another day.

Ignored the little sore that wouldn't go away for a couple of years until I saw my sister (a dermatology nurse) at a familiy reunion after we exited lockdown in spring, she spotted it in a flash. They dug it all out and now have ears that dont match. Again glad I am in the UK, was free and was done within a month of diagnosis. Worst part was not being able to wear a helmet for a month whilst it healed so being grounded. Thoughts are with anyone who faces down the big C

mikeat10500 9 #10 July 28, 2023 Cancer...is no laughing matter...or is it? After all...laughter is the best medicine. So what is the big mystery...where is the cure? What treatments are effective...and for how long? I know nothing of what I speak of...just thinking out loud. Any Cancer research people out there? PHD's in internal medicine? We should be able to put our heads together...and beat this thing. Ok...<Garbage on> We need three things to get Cancer. 1) a bacterial infection "you should already have this by now" 2) Scar tissue, inflammation and fatty tissue. "Smoking, super hot coffee, liver damage , old injuries and we need a high fat diet. "I assume you took care of that already" 3) a compromised immune system. "high stress life style and poor eating habits" That should do it...everyone now has Cancer. OK...how do we reverse this effect. Conventional treatment to slow the Cancer effect... But the cure leis in your immune system. That is how we got in this mess in the first place. That bacteria will not act up if your immune system is strong. It will live with you as a symbiotic...to avoid detection. If your immune system is weak...it is coming back...for sure. If you build a strong immune system...you found the cure. So Low stress combined with good nutrition should be a winning hand. Good nutrition is mandatory for a full recovery. No form of Cancer is unbeatable... Proof is provided in the link. Mushroom extracts are available in the USA. Good luck! https://youtu.be/7agK0nkiZpA https://youtu.be/J9g_LAXfS24
