Carl Boenish Documentary ALMOST FINISHED

Recommended Posts

Hi Skydivers,

I have been working on a film about Carl Boenish and
his films for over 6 years. We are getting close to the finish line.

I need contact information from anyone who may have known Carl during his early skydiving years particularly when he was filming Gypsy Moths. Any help with this would be really be appreciated!

Sounds like an amazing project.

I jumped with Carl quite a few times, but it wasn't until the late 70s, and as far as I know, very little footage was ever used.

Anyway, if you haven't already posted this in the History and Trivia forum, you should.

Heck, you might even draw out a few, who I know jumped a lot with him, but who no longer post much. Especially from the So. Cal. bunch.

Snowcrash

Would really love to see it on our side of the Atlantic as well. Any chances of that happening?

I have sent an email to a few cinemas.
SF said they don't decide themselfs what is shown.
And two other cinemas (private owned) never even replied to my mail.:|

If you find one that are willing to show it, please let me know.

Did you contact the Enzian Theater in Maitland, FL? That would be a great theater for the Central FL skydivers to go to. I bet we could fill the theater!

In order to be seen in more theaters then it needs to do well in the theaters listed. It's how smaller films get into more theaters. It's actually pretty extraordinary that it was picked up by larger companies. Universal, Magnolia Pictures and CNN films bought partial rights so they are in charge of what theaters it's shown in(mainly Landmark to start) and how it's distributed. Magnolia get first dibs at placing the film in the US, then it will be shown in select theaters in other countries, probably starting in Norway since they had a large part in production and have money into it. After it makes the rounds in smaller theaters worldwide then CNN Films will be showing it on their platform and then it will be available On Demand and DVD.
I would suggest seeing it on the big screen so as to experience the full effect of the awesome footage both from Carl and the new shots in Norway and it will also help to show that more markets can support the film.

Maybe contacting Magnolia Pictures might do some good trying to get it in certain theaters or finding Landmark Theaters and contacting them and telling them to contact Magnolia to get the film.... Or talk to Mark Cuban since he owns Landmark and Magnolia. ;)

I went and saw this Saturday night and had the privilege of getting to be involved in a Q&A after, as well as meeting both Marah and Jean.

I really enjoyed the entire experience and would highly recommend this film. Hats off ladies, and thank you for sharing your story.

Was friends of Jim Hall, skydiver/Air force officer/military ejection seat tester, project coordinator for the famous Col. Stapp rocket sled ride - (you know - the one where Stapp's mouth is forced open and his eyeballs exposed because eyelids forced open, probably highest survived deceleration G force ever recorded...), co producer and skydiver for "RIPCORD" TV series...etc. He spoke very highly of Carl Boenish and I think was there when on the tragic ocean landing. He talked a lot about Carl. I was jumping back then and was fascinated when he would tell Boenish stories.
(Jim had routine surgery and the goddam hospital infected him with MERSA-superbug. Had both feet amputated and died soon after. Died earlier this year.)

I'd love to see the movie! May 28 Denver. I'd like to see it earlier. Maybe DVD?
