Texas recently passed Senate Bill 13, which prohibits any active Texas firm from contracting with or investing in companies that divest from oil, natural gas, and coal. So this means that: Let's say you own a small contracting company. You have $100K in an investment account for the business in a mix of stocks. You sell some mutual funds and switch to other mutual funds that are doing a little better. And although you didn't know it, the second mutual fund recently sold their oil stuck for retail stock. You can now be fined by Texas for "divesting" your oil stocks! Can't wait to see the piteous cries of conservatives everywhere when (for example) the NRA accidentally divests from oil stocks.
