Second Amendment Preservation Act , Guns and the GOP

Recommended Posts

Evidently the GOP has started to enact laws for guns akin to the Texas anti-abortion law. The Second Amendment Preservation Act " At the heart of the law is an audacious declaration — that all state firearms laws “exceed” the federal government’s power to track, register and regulate guns and gun owners....the law features a provision, the first of its kind in the nation, that allows Missourians to sue local law departments that give “material aid and support” to federal agents — defined as data sharing, joint operations, even social media posts — in violation of citizens’ perceived Second Amendment rights."

"State Senator Eric Burlison, put it, the bill was intended to tell Democrats considering new restrictions to “pound sand.” So the battle-lines have been drawn with the USSC and its stacked conservative bias in the sights of GOP states. Eight other GOP led states have recently passed similar bills.

Missouri has upped the prize "The Missouri law has the sharpest teeth: the provision allowing citizens to sue any local police agency for $50,000 for every incident in which they can prove that their rights were violated, provided they were not flouting state law.

That reliance on citizens’ lawsuits — bypassing police officers and prosecutors who may be reluctant to pursue highly politicized criminal cases — represents another political strategy gaining popularity on the right,"

Don't forget the USSC recently allowed such "citizen actions" to stand.

The Democratic states need to get in on this type of legislation FAST in order to push back. None of this 'take the higher ground' bullshit.

If the SC doesn't rescind it we're seeing the end of traditional law as we know it.

Sure, but first we need to talk about it and get comfortable with how we each feel about it and explore ourselves with a little cosplay. The key here is understanding their point of view. As you know, some kind of PSTD inducing trauma must have happened to cause them to act out in such a self destructive way. Certainly, if we show enough empathy they'll see that we're people, too. Capisch?

Tennessee governor Bill Lee (R) signed the permitless carry legislation into law back in the summer.

Gunman Uk Thang, with no prior felony conviction, opened fire in a Kroger store in Collierville, TN, a couple of days back, killing one person and injuring 15.

Gov. Lee said Friday:

“The constitutional carry bill applies to law-abiding citizens,” he said. “What happened yesterday was criminal activity, violent criminal gun activity."

Fascinating twist of logic.

Hi John,

Until the moment Thang pulled the trigger, he was a 'law-abiding citizen.'

I mean, surely, everyone can see that.

And where were the "good men with guns" that were supposed to have stopped him?

Might as well expect a herd of centaurs to ride to your aid.

Hi folks,

‘The CDC is now hoping to get a fuller picture of the data and long-neglected details on the impact of daily gun violence.

The CDC Wants To Study The True Toll Of Guns In America : NPR

It will be interesting to see what they come up with.  Hopefully, something that might change a few minds on the SCOTUS.

I am not holding my breath.

If people won't believe science enough to take life-saving vaccinations based on their political stance then there is precisely zero chance that anyone on the right will give a fuck about whatever the results of a study by the CDC on gun violence is.

It's a massive waste of money before it even begins.

Get right wing politicians to state publically that if an independant study shows x, y and z as resultts then they'll alter their opinions BEFORE spending the money to do the study, otherwise it's utterly pointless.

Even then the cowards still wouldn't stick to their promises.

Hi folks,

Good news:  ‘A Texas judge has found Infowars host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones liable for damages in three defamation lawsuits

Just desserts IMO.

Rather interesting that it's a default judgement.

The slimeball and his mouthpieces didn't do what they were repeatedly ordered to do.

So they lost.

Now they're going to scream and cry that they were 'victims'. It's what that type does.

Well, one more suit in Connecticut has been given a default judgement.

Jones and his attorneys have consistently failed to produce documentation as ordered by the judge.

Interestingly, some of that documentation is related to how Jones gets his income.
How he monetizes his hatred.
Who's paying him for it.

Funny he won't say. Really, really funny.

And, as I noted above, he's whining and crying that his free speech rights are being 'crucified'.

It appears there has been a very calculated decision that the damages likely to be levied are less than the reputational damage to his financial sources becoming public.

Or that the fear of what could/would happen if he revealed his sources is greater than the fear of the judgements.

No idea who/what pays him. But I can see it being 'bad people who would do bad things'.
