Faux News

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

As if we thought they were the best; NOT:

Fox News heavily promoted a false claim that the Biden administration would force Americans to cut their red meat intake by 90%.

The network falsely reported that a migrant shelter was distributing Kamala Harris' book in "welcome packs."

Fox also ran stories inaccurately claiming the Virginia department of education is moving to eliminate advanced math classes in high schools.

Right-wing media has pushed 3 completely false narratives in less than a week (msn.com)

Sadly there is a market for these "creative" news and stories.
And it gets disturbing when you realize that these consumers are allowed to vote in the next election.

that's just what they show on tv.  there are much worse things going around on some of the fringe sites.  i hesitate to call them 'fringe' any more because they are becoming mainstream.

Morning Jerry,

Both sides of the spectrum are responsible for false narratives. One of the issues is copy/pasting stories from other sites and reporting them word for word as their own without vetting it (not unlike what you posted), and 2) getting a story from social media and blowing it out of proportion without vetting it, and 3) the haste to be the first to print without vetting it.

In summary; without vetting it.

Hi Keith,

What in my post is incorrect?

The London tabloids have nothing on FOX, the Murdoch news empire and other far left/right looney-tune websites. Which all goes to Keith's idea of vetting.

Sure, maybe there should be "literacy tests" or some such way of making sure only people you approve of have agency.

I'm just worried about the consequences looming on the horizon.

Yeah I know. It's just that we all need to be careful about assuming people are too ill informed to vote.

The internet as it exists today just lets us know whats been going on for the last couple thousand years.

Both sides are repsonsible for some false narratives, one side is responsible for many more than the other one is. Remember when the Acorn 'gotcha' dickhead was trying to shop a fake accuser to the press during Kavanaugh's confirmation to discredit the others by association? He only ended up proving that the mainstream 'liberal' print media's ethics and fact checking were easily strong enough to catch his plant in the act before they printed anything.

Then on the flip side, you have this. In the mainstream media, reporters caught faking stories are fired. In the right wing media, reporters resign after being ordered by editors and owners to write fake stories.
