More sacrifices to the 2nd Amendment

Mentally ill people can and do own firearms and other weapons. Sane people own firearms, primarily, and other weapons to protect themselves from mentally ill people. This latest Nashville shooter did not know what sex he was. That strongly suggests a mental illness to me.

I believe we have to do a better job of defending soft targets such schools, churches, etc.

The shooter was assigned female at birth, and lived a large part of her life that way. She only used male pronouns on social media -- is your use of the male pronoun acknowledgment that she may have been misassigned?

I can't answer for Ron of course. I will say that these kind of events usually have more testosterone than estrogen involved. There has been a hint of gender fluidity here so I'm sure there will be a lot of trans bashing to come.

I am just wondering that if one mass shooting by a trans person is telling about trans people in general, what do the rest of the mass shootings say about white men?

If we accept Winsor's premise that it is all about sanity, then I guess trans people are a lot more sane than white guys.

Weird, cause he is actually suggesting legislation to try and stop these mass shootings. Republicans like you are only offering thoughts and prayers. How many thoughts and prayers until they work to reduce some of these mass shootings?

considering she was videoed shouldering a 9mm carbine and not an AR, a ban on AR style weapons would have done no more than “thoughts and prayers”

His efforts are aimed at banning assault style weapons from what I can see. Can certainly argue that an AR-15 is a carbine, so likely both would have been captured in such legislation, unless there would be caliber exclusions.

Regardless, celebrating that a ban wouldn't have stopped a particular mass school shooting seems low, even for you.

Who is celebrating? It is tragic. But the proposed “solutions” would have had little impact on the outcome.  Absent the AR and the KelTech she still had the S&W with 17 rounds of 9mm.

NOW this is the NEW hot topic. Because one can not simply "control" guns in a country FILLED with millions of them already in circulation. Why is this so easy for me to see? Yeah, guns make committing murder easy. This isn't a gun problem, it's a people problem... When we all shift our focus on what CAN be done, we'll all see less of this shit.

People control people. Putting the right people in the right places will go far as a deterrent. There are technologies in NON lethal "weapons" that simply aren't used. When "we" start demanding change that actually works, maybe things will change.

He can not. He can only rationalize his own addiction to AR style weapons. Without doubt that is founded in his decades of honorable service in the US Army where the magic of the 5.56 cartridge was drilled into his psyche.

A good psychiatrist

How many good 24/7 psychiatrists do you reckon would be needed ? A good psychiatrist would mean 1. Given the frequency of such occurrence in the US, 1 would probably not be enough.

That’s funny because a 5.56 was nowhere to be found At the scene.

This is a laughable lie.

So today, the same day I posted this: "Tennessee GOP Rep. Tim Burchett told reporters that “laws don’t work” to curb gun violence.

“We want to legislate evil – it’s just not gonna happen,” he said. “If you think Washington is going to fix this problem, you’re wrong. They’re not going to fix this problem. They are the problem.”

Asked by CNN why private citizens need AR-15s, Burchett pointed to self-defense. He also argued that even though other countries don’t observe the United States’ high frequency of shootings, “other countries don’t have our freedom either … And when people abuse that freedom, that’s what happens.”

So yes a sick lie.

Little impact is still more impact than thoughts & prayers.

Remember you objected to Biden talking about ice cream, while he is trying to at least have a little impact. You don't object to Republicans who only talk about thoughts & prayers and have no impact.

How about no impact, and at least thoughts and prayers do not deprive law abiding citizens of their rights.

Not no impact. There was a previous ban, which was apparently constitutional, which did have some effect on mass shootings. Even appears that the ban became more effective as time went on. So history would suggest there would be some impact and certainly more than your thoughts and prayers.

So the reasons for so many school shootings, according to republicans, is:

-evil
-drag queens
-Biden eating ice cream
-"Washington"
-woke madness
-naked statues

The reason is NOT:

-easy availability of guns

You have yet to demonstrate “some impact”

There is significant debate to be found around the impact of the assault weapons ban if you have any interest. But considering your responses here I have absolutely no interest in having any of that debate with you.

The fact remains is that you object to Biden, who at least is trying to do something, and support Republicans who are unwilling to do anything to try and reduce mass shootings.

Personally I don't think a ban is going to be effective, but significant regulation is required.

Victims, remember the victims.

Uvalde, Texas, shooting victims

How can anyone possible remember the tens of thousands of children in America killed by gun violence. Or even 4,500 every year now?

Lets get this thread back on track. 45,000 killed annually and about 10% of those are children.

Nothing can be done to fix the problem. Nobody wants to get serious about it. Rinse and repeat after every death.
