Earlier that day the child was being punished for eating the shooters food without permission and failing to act as her morning alarm clock. For which the four year old was struck with a sandal. The shooter had temporary custody of the child.

But they had a 9mm after all its Tennessee. In other news from this modern, progressive, republican state:

"When Gov. Bill Lee of Tennessee began a push in April to address public safety, his family was grieving the loss of two close friends, both educators killed in a mass shooting at a Nashville Christian school.

His call for millions of dollars to harden school security was embraced by Republicans in the legislature, who flanked him during a formal announcement."

Some one needs to explain to that woman that not all pistols have magazine safeties. Mag. safeties prevent the firing pin from striking if a magazine is missing.

Some one also needs to explain to her that rule one of gun safety is to only point guns at things that you intend to kill.

To me, this one is just a really good example of everything that's wrong with authoritarian gun culture. The expectation of perfection in someone else, using tools as an enforcement mechanism, the casual treatment of an already-born child as an inconvenience to be passed around, and the assumption that a gun is an everyday tool to be used casually. Of course, these are the same people who treat a 3000-lb piece of machinery as an extension of themselves and their egos (well, I do that sometimes too, but age is helping with that).

It's a complete lack of respect for machinery and other people, other than as a piece of one's world, rather than worthy of their own existence.

And she probably thinks abortion is worse. That child saw someone she was supposed to trust point a gun at her and kill her.

Last weekend we hit the 500th mass shooting in the US for 2023, when a mass shooting in Denver made the list.  We are now at 501.  We are very, very close to two mass shootings a day in the US for the year.

So . . . condolences?  Congratulations?  I guess that depends on what your philosophy on such things is.

Hi Bill,

I, among many others here, are closely following this:  Opponents of Measure 114 gun laws say case is about “individual rights” in trial opening - OPB

We're trying; just hope that the courts agree.

From Nebraska comes a heartwarming story of a gun at a wedding:

A grandfather who was officiating a wedding in Nebraska is facing charges after accidentally shooting his 12-year-old grandson during the ceremony, officials said.

Michael Gardner, 62, was officiating the festivities at Hillcrest Events in Denton around 5 p.m. on Saturday when he attempted to shoot a Pietta Model 1860 Snub Nose revolver loaded with a blank into the air to gain the attention of the wedding guests, according to Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Ben Houchin.

Gardner “decided to gain everybody’s attention and start the wedding with a bang,” Houchin said during a news conference Monday.

“When he decided to cock back the hammer of this revolver, it slipped and it shot his grandson into the left shoulder causing an injury,” Houchin said.

Now the bride and groom will have a great story, and the grandson will have a scar to impress women with!

If only his grandson had a gun, this would have never happened.

Hi folks,

The insanity continues:  One man was killed and another man was wounded in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in downtown Portland . . . at Southwest 10th Avenue and Alder Street, an intersection in the heart of downtown

1 dead, 1 wounded in downtown Portland shooting - oregonlive.com

It's early days, but it appears to be a road rage incident.  One dead & the shooter fucks up his life forever.  What a waste.

Good timing because at least the US Congress has a speaker now to deal with the needed legislation.

Mandatory thoughts and prayers? Or just the mention of thoughts and prayers on the house floor together with the wish for more good people with guns?

Well the shooter should qualify for “good guy with a gun”. Shooting instructor, army reservist.

Perhaps a poster child about the success of American gun control. Documented mental illness, made threats to carry out a mass shooting, owns a AR-15 and nothing done to stop him in advance.

I don’t understand why it’s ok to regulate a woman’s body to save a fetus, but it’s not ok to regulate the sale of guns to save the life of a child.

Because a bunch of rich white men some 236 years ago didn't think womens' bodies were their own to control but  muzzle loading muskets were cool.

 Maine does not:

Require background checks on all gun sales

Have an Extreme Risk (Red Flag)  law

Require violent domestic abusers to relinquish their guns

Ban assault style weapons

Limit magazine capacity

Require concealed carry permits

Restrict open carry

Have a waiting period

Another teen dead.  Shot while walking in the park.  Can't wait for the republicans to use this to call for more guns - if they notice it at all.

A Belmont University freshman has died after being hit in the head by a stray bullet while walking on a trail near the Nashville campus, officials said.

Jillian Ludwig, 18, was shot Tuesday afternoon as she walked on a track in Edgehill Memorial Gardens Park, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a news release.

“Sadly, Jillian Ludwig passed away during the night,” the department said on social media Thursday morning.

A suspect is in custody in the shooting, which happened around 2:24 p.m., when a man on a street near the park opened fire on a moving car, police said.

Well, thank you Clarence Thomas and the other morons on the Supreme Court:

https://nypost.com/2023/11/16/news/chicago-judge-lets-five-time-convicted-felon-walk-free/

Glen Prince, 37, already had three armed robberies and aggravated battery of a police officer on his record when he was arrested for robbing three men on a Chicago train in September 2021, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Police found him with cocaine, a stolen credit card, several bullets, and a fully loaded Smith & Wesson, despite a federal law banning convicted felons from owning guns.

But his case was dismissed earlier this month by federal Judge Robert Gettleman, who ruled that laws prohibiting felons from owning guns violate Second Amendment rights, citing a landmark Supreme Court decision last year.

The judge readily admitted that “violence plagues our communities and that allowing those who potentially pose a threat to the orderly functioning of society to be armed is a dangerous precedent.”

However, he said prosecutors failed to prove that felons are excluded from “the people” protected under the Second Amendment.

“Although there are strong policy reasons for doing everything possible to keep guns off our streets and out of communities, this court can find no such historical analog,” Gettleman wrote in his decision.

When did American courts start taking away constitutional rights for criminal convictions?

For non-violent crimes it's especially confusing to me.

?? From day one.  The right to free assembly is removed if you are convicted and jailed, for example.  And there are frequent cases of court orders preventing assembly with other persons (for example, in a protection order.)

I guess I missed the voting rights and self defense reasons.
