NOW this is the NEW hot topic. Because one can not simply "control" guns in a country FILLED with millions of them already in circulation. Why is this so easy for me to see? Yeah, guns make committing murder easy. This isn't a gun problem, it's a people problem... When we all shift our focus on what CAN be done, we'll all see less of this shit. 

People control people. Putting the right people in the right places will go far as a deterrent. There are technologies in NON lethal "weapons" that simply aren't used. When "we" start demanding change that actually works, maybe things will change.

He can not. He can only rationalize his own addiction to AR style weapons. Without doubt that is founded in his decades of honorable service in the US Army where the magic of the 5.56 cartridge was drilled into his psyche.

Remember you objected to Biden talking about ice cream, while he is trying to at least have a little impact. You don't object to Republicans who only talk about thoughts & prayers and have no impact.

Not no impact. There was a previous ban, which was apparently constitutional, which did have some effect on mass shootings. Even appears that the ban became more effective as time went on. So history would suggest there would be some impact and certainly more than your thoughts and prayers.

So the reasons for so many school shootings, according to republicans, is:

-evil
-drag queens
-Biden eating ice cream
-"Washington"
-woke madness
-naked statues

The reason is NOT:

-easy availability of guns

There is significant debate to be found around the impact of the assault weapons ban if you have any interest. But considering your responses here I have absolutely no interest in having any of that debate with you.

The fact remains is that you object to Biden, who at least is trying to do something, and support Republicans who are unwilling to do anything to try and reduce mass shootings.

Personally I don't think a ban is going to be effective, but significant regulation is required.

Lets get this thread back on track. 45,000 killed annually and about 10% of those are children.

Nothing can be done to fix the problem. Nobody wants to get serious about it. Rinse and repeat after every death.

So it seems the self evident and inalienable rights of these victims are really only subordinate to the 2nd Amendment rights of the gun nuts, and the government chooses not to secure them - in fact it seems deliberately destructive of those ends.  Maybe it's time......

You'd think so.

But from the posts in these forums we all know how the gun nuts think. Guns, specifically AR-15s are necessary to own because Washington doesn't work. Washington is the source of all our problems. Every red-neck American must be armed to the teeth with lots of 5.56 in storage. Because Libs and Washington are the enemy.Every day that message gets delivered to the gun loving base.

The costs of smoking in many countries are pictured on the front of each cigarette package.

While all of this is great conversation I think right now we need to take action at a local level.  I say we need to make our schools safe by employing armed guards.  It's a sad testament but necessary.  Until enough people can be hired deploy the national guards.

That's perfect.  And when one of those underpaid armed guards goes postal and takes out a second grade, we can get national guards to watch the armed guards.  There is no possible downside to this.

Hardening the targets will merely cause the shooters to choose softer targets. Or to target the guards as the first victims.

And how many school districts, that are already often underpaying their teachers and aides, can afford to hire trained guards as well? Which of those districts will happily vote in a tax increase?
