Hi Ron,

I disagree with almost everything you post on here.  I am very glad that you made the choice that you did; the alternative choice would have been far worse.

PS)  We all need something/someone every now & then.

I agree and in most cases churches and religion can assist people in their mental health. Through the development of support networks. I'm glad that it helped Ron as well.

This assumes of course that they can avoid the televangelists who want their money.

I've known three skydivers that have committed suicide.  I've a hypothesis that skydivers are prone to CTE, read an article where it stated that sudden deceleration can have the same affect over time as impact trauma.  I'll see if I can find it.

I have a theory that seeking adrenaline for a high is not very dissimilar from seeking highs from other drugs. Mental health issues are high among those addicted.

Here in the UK, there's been a push to destigmatize mental health and public health have been investing in a Mental Health First Aid scheme which has, so far, put over 1 million MHFA certificate holders into work places. They're trained to spot the early signs of mental health problems and help people who are suffering to access help. They also help promote understanding of mental health issues.

JoeWeber you will not get interested until you have lost all personal power and self-reliance. Just know that if and when that happens, Jesus is The Way.

So lean upon Him gently
And don't call on Him to save
You from your social graces
And the sins you used to waive

The bloody Church of England
In chains of history
Requests your earthly presence
At the vicarage for tea

And the graven image
You know who
With his plastic crucifix
He's got Him fixed
Confuses me as to who and where and why
As to how he gets his kicks
He gets his kicks

Confessing to the endless sin
With endless whining sounds
You'll be praying 'til next Thursday
To all the gods that you can count

A little Jethro Tull to wind me up. Thanks.

But that's what worked for him; not a problem. But Bill's right, too -- it doesn't work for everyone, and I've known Christians who gave up.

Yup. I know of a 'born-again' (Christ the Rock church) preacher (pastor? Not sure of the correct title) who suffered long and hard with depression. He prayed, his family prayed, the whole congregation prayed. Not sure if he sought professional help, or tried medication.

In any case, the prayer didn't work. He ended up killing himself.

Hi Joe,

Re:  suffered long and hard with depression - He ended up killing himself

Perfect description of my best friend in life.

When he took his own life, I was not surprised.
