It's called choice,a solution to a socialist system without options.

You have choice — it costs more, but such is life. Get more money, and all that.
Public education isn’t to benefit you personally, it’s to benefit society as a whole. Educated youngsters can accomplish more than ignorant ones

Go moral cut throat on her, that's the ticket. I'll agree she was human and a bitch.

Then you completely missed the point of what I posted.  No one is responsible to live by your (or even their own stated) moral code.

Quote

We as Individuals, are the smallest minority of any society. The threat to our sovereign individualism is collectivism. Simply,we must be vigilant or we lose ourself in favor of the group psychology and identity.

Agreed with all that.  You have to maintain your identity in the face of (say) the republican party or objectivists (even when you are a literal member of their Collective) or jingoism.

Quote

In any group/collective we are subjected to these forces. The Gov't being the ultimate in collective power, essential in totalitarian society, the basis and reasoning for her work later works.

Yep.  But far too many people then make the unwarranted jump to "since the government represents our collective power, that collective power is therefore inherently evil."  That's a mistake Rand made as well.

Which drives conservation and EV purchase and usage. It sounds like the left is winning.

Perhaps I'll have to move from the right to the left.

moving left, that requires the idea that high prices are a benefit to the poor and the struggling middle class, can simply adjust. It requires being fearful at night for the fate of the planet, lifting people out of poverty,no so much. Be fearful and vote like your life depends on it, because it does, lol.

Jesus says so

I didn't think I was pushing a morality code,sorry. "each his own."

Yes that's the lesson, to maintain our individualism, Despite the psychological endless pull of the collective or group of our choosing, to honestly maintain our autonomy, identity, individualism.

"since the government represents our collective power, that collective power is therefore inherently evil."

In short, it is, potentially, inherently as all men are.Like a corporation with mere mortals at the helm. Government it has an ability to envelope all in unimaginable evil.A quick take of history proves the point. ie germany russia china cambodia ect.

Her history and our use of language is important.

If she were to live her life,as some think she should had, it would be counterintuitive and destroys the essence of individualism at go,as her philosophy espouses. She would not have fled to America.Instead chosen a cabin alone in Siberia if she lived, to do her life's work and we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

The thing is that freedom isn’t free. Even if the freedom to, for example, drive a coal roller is available to you, it costs others comfort in the ability to breathe. Not alone, but it contributes, just as each piece of flotsam contributes to the giant trash island in the “endless” Pacific.
You are free to send your children to other schools; it costs either you (tuition) or others (public education). Is your freedom worth everyone else’s?

Tell that to seniors who say "we don't have any children in the schools, we shouldn't pay taxes."

My Pops and I would disagree, he's be paying for my free education for forty years and will be till the day he dies.We just got our tax bills in and they increased yet again,Not much of a burden for me, other than the slap in the face.My Pops, like most seniors lives on a fixed income, as property tax rises his income doesn't. he sees it as a scheme to tax him out of house and home. Advantageous to the bureaucracy as the new buyer will be paying even more in taxes.A simple moratorium on tax increases for the elderly, would go a long way in this high tax State.

What did we, our community our children get for our tax dollars, nothing.Unless a paid one year vacation for teachers count.

Governor Newsom kids Private school was open, educating, ours not so much.

If you think educating the next generation is "nothing" -  and has no benefits to your local community - we will just have to agree to disagree.

Hi Robert,

Back in the 60's, before I got married, I always voted for school bond measures. *  For that very reason.

Public schools are not perfect.  But, the alternative is worse.

Jerry Baumchen

* I still do.

Public and private schools both claim to be primarily about education. But they are both actually about indoctrination first and education second. The best private schools exist so the the upper classes can separate their children from the lower classes and teach them that they are better and that more is expected from them. The way our society works we need both of these systems.

Well darn, that never happens in this forum. Why don’t you try posting something on topic?

OK, here goes.

It takes a number of years after a president has left office before their ranking with past presidents.  Time will tell how Biden stacks up, and also Trump.

Hi Big,

I agree with your comments on ranking; except that I think we all know * that Trump has already gone down as the worst POTUS ever.

Jerry Baumchen

* Well, most of us.

Jerry, I am getting to zero patience with those who comment as if we had multiple candidates opposed to Trump. We did not. We had Biden. Now, we don't have Trump. So for those people: for fucks sake, unless you miss Trump, give it a goddamn rest.

Unfortunately a lot of stupid people don't think that way.  Some of them even post here.

Stupid, selfish & short-sighted.
I made that comment in another thread. It also applies here.

I always remember that today's kids are the ones that will be paying into Social Security when I'm receiving it.
I'd like them to be at least reasonably well educated, so that they can get real jobs.

Yes. Because if they don't get real jobs and make some extra money they won't be valuable customers. That alone makes the investment worthwhile.

Here in Canada property taxes are set by two factors, the assessed value of the property and the mill rate. Multiplying those two gets you to the property taxes payable. Hence, it is possible for property taxes to go up, without the mill rate increasing. In those cases the net worth of the payor has gone up. (also why many municipalities allow for the deferral of property taxes until sale of asset.

This was my biggest concern with the Trump presidency. Every single norm, rule or protocol he broke and faced no consequences for, established precedence for anyone who follows down the line to get away with the exact same shit, or worse.

Hi folks,

A glimmer of hope:  Biden signs . . .  deal with bipartisan crowd

Biden signs $1T infrastructure deal with bipartisan crowd: ‘America is moving again’ - oregonlive.com

I suppose Trump will now condemn every R that showed up.

For me, it's nice to see some of the GOP willing to be there.
