So on Jan 6th, after weeks of planning, MAGA rioter Jeffrey Sabol flew to DC, started rioting outside the Capitol, grabbed a cop's baton, then used it to attack another cop who was trying to protect the Capitol.  Afterwards Sabol went back to Denver, apparently proud and puffed up about his patriotism - he referred to himself as a "patriot warrior."  Then he realized that trying to kill a cop might not be seen as patriotic by . . . . well, anyone sane.  So he fried all of his devices, flew to Boston, and tried to get on a plane to Switzerland.

When he got there he saw a lot of cops waiting for him.  So he left the airport, rented a car and tried to drive South.  They caught him outside New York City.

He is now angry he's been denied bail, based on the silly theory that if he tried to flee the country once, he might try it again. That cop he attacked?  He was merely “patting him on the back.”  He is also blaming Trump for forcing him to riot against his better judgment.  He said he didn't riot until the "call to battle was announced" by Trump and his supporters, and felt that it was a presidential order and so was lawful.

The judge in the case had something interesting to say about that:

"To be sure, to what extent President Trump's words and actions led to the violent and shocking storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 is an important question, and one that could still have legal consequences for the former President and his prominent supporters.  But President Trump's culpability is not before this Court."

That's the first time I've heard a sitting judge comment on Trump's legal liability for the riot.

Hi Bill,

Let's hope it is not the last time.

Moron. He should have gone to Winnipeg and hid out in an ice fishing shack on the Assinboine.

Hi folks,

Another one pleads guilty:  Paul Hodgkins Pleads Guilty In Capitol Riot Case : NPR

Another rat leaves the ship.

Makes you wonder what is going thru the minds of the others arrested.

That Trump will be re-instated in August and will pardon them all, or some other nonsense. They have already shown common sense isn't very common for them.

All of this ranges from overblown hype to outright lies. There was no "invasion." Multiple recent videos clearly reveal that the "insurrectionists" were literally ushered into the capitol by security personnel.

They were not allowed to be in there. If security personnel ushered them in then that doesn't make it legal. It makes those security personnel culpable.

oh, and lets not forget the people beating on cops, stealing stuff and shitting in the rotunda. Or do you just do that on every tour where you're from?

The power of FOX is strong in this one.

Ah yes!  The "it was just a bunch of tourists taking pictures" defense!  I love this one.  Do you think the "tourist" that blinded the cop kept his eyeball as a souvenir?  It's the sort of things right wing tourists do, don't you know.  "Oh that old thing!  Yeah, remember that tour group we were in back in 2021?  Well, it was a great time, let me tell you . . . "

Meanwhile, back in reality:

Paul Hodgkins, a "tourist" who took part in the Jan 6 riot, pled guilty to felony obstruction of Congress earlier today.  His sentence carries a maximum of 20 years, but he will likely serve 1-2 years in prison, and emerge a convicted felon.  His case has been seen as a bellwether; he was not charged with doing anything other than invading the Capitol to disrupt the vote, had nothing to offer authorities and was willing to plead guilty, so this is the best outcome that a criminal like him can expect.  For the others, their choices will likely be:

1) Plead guilty to a felony and spend 1-2 years in prison
2) Plead innocent, have it go to court, and spend 20 years in prison when they lose
3) Turn evidence against other traitors and get out with time-served on a lesser charge.

One down, 449 to go.

Yeah! Like when the cop had to shoot that woman trying to break into the house chamber where the representatives were hiding. Everyone knows a bullet in the neck is just a friendly invitation.

Hi folks,

And, another rat leaves the ship:  Pence Says He And Trump May Never 'See Eye To Eye' On Jan. 6 : NPR

Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday night that he doubts that he and former President Donald Trump will ever see "eye to eye" over the Jan. 6 insurrection

Maybe being away from the insanity of Trump's White House has brought him to his senses.

Maybe he sneaked into Mar-a-Lago and retrieved his balls when Trump wasn't looking.
